An oddly pleasant day

The temperature here was 104 today.  I decided to stay in and 'hibernate.' Early in the morning the dogs and I took a walk, and I watered the most needy plants and promptly came in and closed everything up.  I decided to go to afternoon church.  It turned out to be a most peaceful and rewarding day over all. I finished a gift tunic I was making,  had long phone conversations with several people who are dear to me, and in between I worked on cleaning out my studio/sewing room and getting it re-organized.

Hah!  the lint and thread that was all over the floor are gone, the sliding door is even clean.  I finally figured out a way to make the window air conditioner in my work room actually cool the room!  I put a separate fan at 90 degrees to blow the cool air around the rather large room, and it's actually working!  Yay me.

Well, my intention was to go to evening mass at 5 PM, so off I went and found myself in a totally dark church.  There were little groups of people around, but the only lights in sight were the emergency exit signs.  The silly building has NO windows at all, and it would have been impossible to have mass in there, so people moved into the tiny chaple that does have windows.  The solution was to use the altar in there and sort of spread out to the attached main church to listen to, but not see the mass.  People pickedup chairs and re-arranged them to face the chaple.  The little choir, which is usually pretty amped up, moved into the chaple and sang acappela to the beat and tinkle of an un-amped electric guitar.  It was actually kind of nice.

Our visiting priest was an old Irish missionery from Brazil, and quite a comedian.  I think people were very generous to his cause.

I believe the phone conversations were the nicest part of the day.  It was almost like going to a quiet cocktail party.  I got to talk to several dear family members,  and really got a chance to enjoy their company one on one for about an hour each.

Yay for Alexander Graham Bell.  He made my day!
