Character name: Chiyo Mihama
Fandom: Azumanga Daioh
Timeline: Post-series!
Age: 12

~*Magical*~ abilities and strengths:
Chiyo does not have anything in terms of magical powers, but she is a child prodigy! Like, extremely so. Despite only being twelve, she graduates as her class's valedictorian. So basically she is just... very smart. She's also good at cooking and cleaning; in addition, she is a very fast learner. To contrast with her cognitive abilities, Chiyo is terrible at athletics, tongue twisters, and solving riddles.

How would they use their abilities?:
To... help people with their homework? v

Appearance:
The first thing that people notice about Chiyo is that she's tiny! Even for her age, she's still really short-although she does grow a little more by the time she graduates, she's about 4'3" in her second year. Her orange-brown hair is always tied back into two pigtails. Her clothes aren't really the type to make her stand out, but when she wears costumes, it's generally agreed that she's the the cutest thing ever.

Background:
In the beginning of Azumanga Daioh, Chiyo is one of many young students beginning their first year of high school. One thing sets her apart from her fellow incoming freshmen, though-she's ten years old. Smart enough to skip five grades and still remain at the top of her class, Chiyo quickly becomes popular at the school, and easily makes friends with the girls who would be her companions through high school: Tomo Takino, Koyomi "Yomi" Mizuhara, Ayumu "Osaka" Kasuga, Sakaki, and Kagura-along with their homeroom and English teacher Yukari Tanizaki, and their P.E. teacher Minamo "Nyamo" Kurosawa.

The manga proceeds to follow the girls and their teachers throughout their high school years. Most of the story revolves around their daily school lives and the breaks in between, which are usually spent at Chiyo's home or summer home. All three years make up an amazing learning experience for Chiyo-she adapts to high school life, gets her first summer job, goes on class trips, participates in cultural and sports festivals-and of course, strengthens her relationships with her friends. While there is a solid linear continuity to the series, there's not really an overarching plot, other than the fact that the girls are just trying to make it through high school.

Once the girls are in their senior year, Chiyo tells her friends that, while the rest of them are planning on going to college in Japan, she has decided that she wants to continue her education in America-there's a university for accelerated students like her that she wishes to attend. This means she doesn't have to take the rigorous college exams Japan's educational system is known for, and instead does her best to wish her friends luck and prepare them for the tests. While things start to look bleak for a couple of the girls (namely Osaka and Yomi), Chiyo cheers them all on, and each girl eventually gets accepted into college.

Due to her impressive academic performance, Chiyo graduates at the top of her class, rousing applause from the entire audience. After graduation, Chiyo starts crying as she thinks she'll never see her friends again-the people she saw every day for the last three years of her life. A few days after the ceremony, the girls decide to spend one last time as friends visiting an amusement park. As they are about to go off on their trip, Chiyo realizes that, even though they'll all go their separate ways, they'll still be best friends in the end. Thus, she goes off with her friends with a smile on her face, looking forward to the future and the experiences that lie ahead, knowing that, no matter what, she'll always have her friends to back her up.

Personality:
First and foremost, Chiyo is a very kind and polite girl! She is the voice of reason within the girls' circle, always wanting to keep the peace. She's also very diligent and responsible-she states that she wakes up early to make breakfast for her parents and lunch for herself before going to school, and she's almost unanimously elected to be her class's president in their second year. Despite being rather wealthy, Chiyo is very humble (something Yukari frequently berates her about). She shows no signs of being arrogant or egotistical because of her background or smarts-though she has been shown to get jealous if someone outperforms her in academics.

While Chiyo certainly has mental capabilities and a certain maturity of a person beyond her age, she is still very much a child in personality. When stressed or overwhelmed with emotion, Chiyo is prone to crying, which usually causes people to take pity on her (although that's not her intention-her tears are usually genuine). Before entering high school, she lived a relatively sheltered life, leading her to be naive and innocent about some things. For example, when Osaka suggests that the reason Sakaki is so tall is because she's stealing Chiyo's height, Chiyo actually goes up to Sakaki and starts asking if the older girl had taken her height.

The relationship between Chiyo's conflicting age and maturity, as well as how she feels about being a high school student, are also driving factors for her. In the beginning of the story, she longs to be treated rightfully as a high school student. While she does find a place among her peers, she still wants other people to take her seriously. When she does gain her acceptance, however, she becomes more confident in herself and in her being a high school student-when seeing a movie with her friends from elementary school, she insists on paying the more expensive high school student's price, and refuses to take money from her relatives at New Year's because she feels that's what high school students are supposed to do. At other times, she is wistful about the childhood she literally skipped out on, since being in high school means she has to work harder. She hates being a burden on people because of her age and/or size, and if she finds something she can improve herself in, she will do the best she can to become better.

1st person sample:
Hello, everyone! My name is Chiyo Mihama, and I'm a new arrival. I've already heard about the situation we're in, and I'm sorry for everyone else's worlds... but that just means we all have to work hard to get them back, right? I hope we can all get along until we reach our goal!

Anyway, um, I heard there was a school here! I was actually in the middle of finalizing my plans to start college, so I'd be very interested in knowing where I could sign up for classes here.

...

Um, yes, that's right! I'm a college student. I actually just graduated from high school a month or so ago. I-I'm not lying! I would show you my diploma, but, well... it was probably destroyed with my world...

[she pauses as she starts to sniffle a bit, but quickly recovers.]

W-well, anyway! If anyone needs me, please don't hesitate to contact me through here. I'd really like to get to know people around here. ... Oh, and if anybody sees the following people, would you please let me know? [she takes the time to show pictures of all her friends.] Their names are Tomo Takino, Koyomi Mizuhara, Ayumu-oh, but I guess she'd respond to "Osaka," Sakaki, Kagura, Yukari Tanizaki, and Minamo Kurosawa. Thank you for your time.

[the video feed clicks back from the pictures to the young girl bowing her head, and then shuts off again.]

3rd person sample:
So, this is how it felt to have graduated from high school, huh? Even though it had been weeks since the actual ceremony, Chiyo still couldn't believe it was really over. ... To tell the truth, it wasn't really that much different-at least, on the outside. She was still twelve years old, still wore her hair in her signature twintails, and still hadn't grown an inch. But something not visible, something on the inside had definitely changed.

The day she'd spent with her friends at Magical Land was just as anybody could have expected. Though Chiyo had adamantly refused to ride any of the roller coasters (even jumping in shock as the sound of rattling ones passed her by), the day had been an amazing experience-one that none of them would ever be able to forget. Everyone enjoyed the final time they got to spend together as high school friends.

But now... what happened now? They were all going to college, going off on their separate ways. And even though the rest of them were staying in Japan, Chiyo was headed to America, to a new and unfamiliar land. It wasn't the fact that she was scared or nervous about being a foreigner, no-she was fluent enough in English that she didn't have to worry about that. No, it was more the fact that she wouldn't be able to see her friends again. No more of Tomo's loud rambunctiousness, or Yomi's subsequent reprimanding, or Sakaki's rolling around with Maya, or Kagura's interruption of said rolling around, or Osaka... well, being Osaka.

A sudden nudge to her hand brought her out of her reverie. Looking down, her gaze was met with the big brown eyes of her dog, a simple smile on his face. Chiyo's expression slowly changed to match his as she moved her hand to his head and ruffled his fur a little. It was true, what she'd said about Mr. Tadakichi before. It was almost like he could understand her, and he could respond just by looking at her.

"Yeah, that's right, Mr. Tadakichi. Even if we've graduated, we're all still together. Maybe we could all hang out one last time before I leave... and, well, even if we don't, we can still keep in touch with them, right?" She laughed as the dog rubbed his face into her hand as she gave him a little hug. She still had her whole future ahead of her, right? They'd all meet again, someday; she didn't have to worry about that.

Questions?: Would it be okay to bring Chiyo's dog, Mr. Tadakichi, along with her? ... Also, yeah, due to her circumstances, could she sign up for college classes?
