This weekend was gigantic and life feels huge, and I’m having a hard time 1) condensing it into bite-size epiphanies for myself and 2) updating the internet about it in a satisfying way. SPX, the Small Press Expo, was amazing. I got autographs from tons of people I have loads of admiration for. Jim Rugg, Hope Larson, Bryan Lee O'Malley, Meredith Gran, Becky Cloonan, Kate Beaton, and other great people. I bought tons of comics and it was great great great ( Read more... )

GenCon 2008 was great. Last year's convention was so enjoyable for me, I decided to draw little portrait gifts for the 15 authors of the Writer's Symposium, the group that puts together a bunch of writing seminars that I have been attending for the last four GenCons. It was a lot of fun and good watercoloring practice.

My Swedish relatives were over today! My uncle on my dad's side, Matt, his Swedish wife Karen, and their two adorable boys, Fredrick, 11, and Anders, 4. They were super cute. Fredrick has a good grasp on English and would say things to me like "they're dead fish" and "he wants the grasshopper to go underwater." Anders doesn't know English at all, ( Read more... )
