Seriously. All I do right now? Knitting.
Well, and working myself up to apply for jobs. But mostly knitting.
In the interest of using livejournal for non-emo things sometimes, here is a post about a couple of my favorite knitting projects from the past few months. Two of them are still in progress, so it's more about how I really enjoy either the process or the concept.
The Time Lag Stole; or, Midnight at the Galactic Circus
This abomination came into being when I stuck two different color pathways of Zauberball together and decided I needed to knit something large and rainbow-y out of them. I started off calling it just Midnight at the Galactic Circus, because
deva_fagan has written a book called Circus Galacticus (which is not coming out until NOVEMBER, sigh) and I rather liked the name, and also this seems like it might be something that an alien might wear to a particularly fancy circus. And then it became the Time Lag Stole, since I suspect the only reason I love it so much is because I suffer from permanent time lag.
In the Sphere of Sirius
This is one of the shawls currently in progress. I started it right after finishing a re-read of Dogsbody by Diana Wynne Jones. I had a couple of balls of variegated yarn in assorted spring greens/yellows/turquoises/blues, and they made me think of the descriptions of Sirius's sphere. It's going to be a large, round shawl, and the pattern I chose (
Queen of Heaven, for those who frequent Ravelry) looks like a large, spiraling starburst of some sort.
Alpine knit scarf
There's not much to say about this one. It's from a book called Victorian Lace Today, which is full of projects adapted from Victorian-era lace pattern books. I've really been enjoying it, though. Even though the lace pattern looks complex, it ended up being fairly easy to memorize, so I've been zooming my way through it in between other lace projects.
Mom's having me knit shawls for a number of the ladies who have been helpful and supportive for her during this ridiculously hard time, so she sent me gift cards for
Webs, the yarn paradise, and so I got scrumptious yarn I would not have been able to afford otherwise. So I knit. My brain stays off.
Let's see. Other news? Ben and I got our incredibly awesome Jörmungandr-inspired wedding rings:
