New BBM Food, and Plagiarism

I found a new BBM fic: "Decisions" by niims

I stumbled upon it following a comment niims left in baileymoyes's journal about plagiarism - which, when I followd up on that, just took my breath away it was so blatant and inconceivably obvious. allthemthings alerted to it in her journal, that's how I know.

I just went over and browsed through snuffle007's journal. She seems to have a lot of personal problems. Failing her first Uni year just seems a symptom of the underlying complexity of it all. I wish someone she listens to would suggest therapy to her. Then she wouldn't need to compensate in this roundabout way and hurt so many others along the way.

Here is my comment to allthemthings's plagiarism post:

I applaud you for taking the stand for those authors. I truly admire their craft and talent, they put a lot of work and inspiration in the creation of their fascinating and beautiful universes.

It's just wrong for anybody to go and take these authors' work and present it as their own. If I had spotted it, I would have done the same.

But I think there is more to this affair then meets the eye.

Reading snuffle007's/Hannah's journal, I cannot help but think that she has serious personal problems and should definitely seek professional help to deal with them, lest she goes and compensates for her hurt by hurting many others along the way -- which she obviously has done again by posting her plagiarized story to FF.net.

IMO, the only "unintentional" thing about this is her unawareness of what exactly it is she is doing. She doesn't seem to be able to see the underlying pattern in her behavior:
(a) (re)creating a situation where almost everybody turns towards her in hate while
(b) she feels wrongfully attacked so that she
(c) "un-intentionally" does something to "get even with the world" and consequently
(d)=(a) creates a situation where almost everybody turns in hate towards her

There is a lot of hurt and pain and repetitive behavior involved here and it would be advisable for Hannah to address and investigate this in order to be able to heal and to avoid repeating her own hurtful behavior.

It seems that she herself is also suffering through this "unintentionality" of hers by "missing" her first Uni exam although she claims to have been well prepared (even while suffering from a severe bout of migraine, an exam is not something one "forgets" easily).

In any counseling situation, forgetting things, avoiding certain subjects, missing appointments and denying certain behavior, are clear clues to a complex and often traumatic history of hurt and, possibly, abuse.

So while I think it was wrong what she did, I also think she should be seen and treated as someone who has to deal with a lot more than this evident plagiarism. Like when a forest is burning. Of course you worry about your cabin, it's your cabin after all. But there is a whole wood at stake and while you might manage to save your cabin, your neighbor's could not be so lucky and the entire wood could be burning to the ground.

And in the end, what you wish for is for all the fires in the wood to be doused and for the trees and shrubs to be able to recover and flourish and for the animals to return and inhabit it and for everybody to feel welcome to visit and enjoy it.

At least that's what I wish for. I wish Hannah finds a way to heal."

Following up on this whole affair rendered one more recommendation: "Dreaming", a WIP by cathalin. I don't know when I will have the time to catch up with that or niims's "Decisions", but I am keeping the links for future reference. At the moment I am still too engrossed in my dS feast to be able to concentrate much on BBM fanfic. Although I read chapter 26 of wordsmithslash's "Reconciliation" today and was not disappointed. The boys truly rock!!! She is such a good writer, effortless and warm, a real pleasure to read.
