Civil liberties take a facepalm

Freedom of the de-Press-ing

Yes, I agree with the court that freedom of the press, at face value, includes the freedom to lie and distort facts.  Ultimately, however, is this a question of "shouting fire in a crowded theater?"

Forcing the press to tell "the truth" is a bit Orwellian, of course, since "the truth" may and or may not have any relation to reality, but was it worth the $425,000 for a major news organization to admit that they willfully and intentionally mislead the public in order to placate their advertisers?

This is part of why I like to get my news from the Daily Show.  At least there I know I can't take it at face value.
