The good, the bad, the in-between

A fine lunch hour
Originally uploaded by kellyhafermann. A few weeks ago I purchased a membership to the Art Institute. The official card came in the mail a few days ago, so today I went for the first time (since moving here, can you believe it?). All the Impressionists had either been re-arranged or out on loan for the past few months while the museum remodeled its galleries; when I went this noon, it was like going to Target after they re-organized everything. I found my baby (Seurat), which was my ultimate goal for the quick lunch visit, but I really need to get back there more often now that I have no excuses.

On a much more annoying note, a package I ordered from an online company has been misdelivered to a neighboring building, not by UPS, but by FedEx. Instead of remedying the situation, some bitch at FedEx last night suggested I go knock on doors in my neighborhood until I find it. Yep. I said a few variations of a few expletives and emailed the company from which I ordered the package.

They were very quick in their response. Apparently they tried talking with FedEx. They are going to re-do my order and bill FedEx for the item cost and the shipping - not sure if they're going to try to ship through them or not. Seriously, FedEx suggested I go door-to-door looking for their mistake.

And on a third topic, I'm reading "Sunrise over Fallujah," by Walter Dean Myers, for work. It's YA, but I'd give it to adults looking for war pseudo-fiction. Since it's required reading for something coming up, I spent most of the day today looking it over at the reference desk. There I sat, completely engrossed in this book with tears in my eyes, when a young lady came to ask a question. She must have thought I was nuts. Reviewers on Amazon give it mixed reviews, mostly because it's about the current war (apparently these folks don't understand objectivity), but oh, my, God. I left it at work and I know I could have finished it tonight.
