So.
because ranting to Jorie via Text messages did not fully alleviate my confusion...
This family has come into the store everyday for the past four days.
A man and his wife and three kids.
Now. The father here, is very mentally handicapped and also mildly physically handicapped.
The mother is, in all appearances and functions- normal.
it's great they found each other.
But... they produced four kids together-
each of them mentally handicapped and one of them at the age of 6 has a cochlear implant too. Motor skills are definitely not there. None of them can talk in a manner understandable to anyone who has not spent time learning their individual speech tendencies.
Why on earth would you reproduce if you knew (or had a really good idea) of what low quality of life your kids would have?
at that point, if you really wanted children, wouldn't it be good to adopt?
then you could improve the quality of life of an already existing child, instead of putting more children in the world that would have an extremely low quality of life.
I know, i probably sound like some kind of... i don't know- communist? china? something. But it's just... what I think.
MOVING ON.
around 12:30 today, the power on half the island was knocked out.
why?
A dray cart hit the TRANSFORMER.
so, me in my little teeny store with 2 windows... (the store was then called "the cave")
people were running all over.
The dray driver got ticketed.
The owner of the building was going nazi on bike parking.
and THREE guys were watching the TRANSFORMER while they waited for the electrical truck to come by.
1- Grand Hotel worker in full suit.
1- Grand Hotel "scum worker" in full green body suit... smoking.
1- Police officer with bike helmet.
They were there for an hour before the truck got there.
When the truck was there, they announced it would be another 2-3 hours until power was back.
MEANWHILE, in The Cave-
It was getting darker as the sun's angle changed... and it was getting HOTTER.
I was making sales all kinds of manually- calculator, sales-slips, awesome. really. >.>
It was crowded and stuffy.
and nobody was buying much.. because it was too unbearable in the store for people to hang around.
it got to be 80* in there, with no air movement.
the power came back on at 1500.
I was scheduled to work until 1800, so it was good for me and Meg.
more awesomeness occurred at 1750- when I received a call asking me to stay until 8.
JOY.
