When I was in elementary school - either second or third grade, I can't remember which - I had a teacher who liked to sing little songs about the everyday events in the life of a child. The one song that I specifically remember was the New Shoes song, and it went something like this:
Suzi has new shoes
Pretty little new shoes
Suzi has new shoes on today
See her walk!
Hear her talk!
Suzi has new shoes on today
Obviously, the song was customized to whatever child had the starring role. I suspect the teacher also changed "pretty" to a different adjective when the song was about boy shoes, but if she did I can't remember what the replacement word was. Also, the "hear her talk" line semes like a bit of a throwaway, doesn't it? No idea why it was in there, except I can't think of another good word that rhymes with walk.
Anyway, the point of all this is just to say that sometimes I miss those good ol' days where a pair of shoes was considered such an accomplishment that it merited a song.
I still have pretty little new shoes!
