A mighty fine haul of BOOKS!!!
I am addicted to Groupon and similar sites (LivingSocial, Trubates, etc.) and as a result I have accumulated a decent pile of vouchers that need to be used up.
So I'm flipping through them and realize that a $20 for $40 voucher at Kepler's Books is nearing its expiration date. Sounds like it's time for a trip to Menlo Park! (Aside: I haven't been to Kepler's since Christopher Moore made an appearance last April. I really gotta work on supporting my local indie bookstores...but c'mon, Menlo Park is an hour away!!!)
So I spend an hour or so browsing. Kepler's has both new and used books, so I was constantly pulling books off the shelf and then slipping them back, shuffling paperbacks in an attempt to maximize the variety and quantity of books I could get with my voucher. I didn't want to go with all used books - the novelty of a brand new book is hard to resist, I get them so rarely - but just purchasing new books would use up the entire $40 with just one or two tomes!
In the end, these were the books I got:
- Parasyte Vol. 3 and Vol. 5 (used)
- Stones into Schools by Greg Mortenson (follow-up to his blockbuster Three Cups of Tea) (new)
- The Mountains of California by John Muir (used)
- Trickster Makes This World: Mischief, Myth, and Art by Lewis Hyde (used)
- The Lady Elizabeth by Alison Weir (used)
My total was forty-five dollars and change - not bad at all for six books!
Only problem is the used books have a HUGE green sticker on them that's going to be a pain to get off, because it's not one of those easy-peel price stickers like the ones used at Border's. Every time I pick at the edge, paper and glue residue gets left behind. Grrrrr.
