I've been meaning to sit down and make a post about the past week, but I've been so busy at work that I haven't had time. Now I know I COULD have written this post at home, but when I get periods at work where I have a half hour or more with nothing to do, I may as well wait until I've got the free time.
It's been a pretty good week. Things kicked off last weekend when my my parents came to visit. They hadn't seen our apartment since we unpacked and set everything up and got most of our art. They were really impressed with how it looked. Pictures will follow soon.
The next morning, they wanted to see the liberty bell, so we walked to it. Along the way, we stopped in China town to pick up some panko bread crumbs for mom. Luckily, there was a mid-Autumn festival going on, and we got to see a dragon dance. It was my parents' first dragon dance and my first one since I left Tulane. It was really cool to see.
After the dragon dance, we finished up the walk to the bell, and we all took pictures with it. My folks had never seen it, but Caroline and I saw it when we first moved here. By the time we saw the bell, it had started raining, so we caught a bus back to the apartment.
For dinner, we hit Reading Market Terminal, and it was really cool. We'd been there earlier in the day and got some of the BEST doughnuts on the face of the planet, and dinner was pretty good, too. I really wanted to take my dad there in particular since he still works on the railroad. Granted, this is no longer a train terminal, but at one point it was.
To conclude the evening, we saw School For Scoundrals at the United Artist theater, and it was actually better than I thought it'd be. Caroline wanted to see it, so I suggested we all go. I think everyone liked it, and I'd recommend it to anyone looking for a decent comedy.
The next day we went to King of Prussia, the home of the second-largest mall in America. Sadly, mom didn't buy anything for her birthday, but we got plenty of good things for Caroline. She's never lived in a cold climate, so she needed several warm things.
After the mall, my folks headed back to Indiana, and we went back by ourselves.
In other news, our final painting came in on Tuesday, so we now have art on just about every wall. This one is an original Japanese woodcut painting that is 140 years old. It's REALLY cool, and it's by far our favorite.
Also, yesterday was Caroline's birthday. I felt bad that I missed her last two birthdays, so I wanted to make this one extra special. Sadly, the gift I got her hasn't arrived yet, but it should get here soon. As for dinner, I made herb-crusted stuffed porkchops with mashed potatoes. I also baked her a cake and topped it with strawberry icing I made from scratch. All in all, it was a really nice night, and I'm just glad I got to share it with her.
And that brings us up to the present. I'm sitting at work waiting for 4:30 so I can go home and call it a day. Tomorrow is Friday, and then I'll have another weekend to enjoy. It can't come soon enough.
