Music & Love

I have known for quite some time now that Choi enjoys listening to old songs - songs that our grandparents' and parents' generations used to listen to. I wasn't aware of how extensive his old music library was though until recently when I brought him home from the resto (because he still doesn't have his new car).

That night, he discovered the joy of searching Spotify for songs. I was surprised that of all the songs he could have played, he decided on playing songs by Air Supply, Journey, Bryan Adams, Phil Collins, Simon & Garfunkel, Carpenters and more from the same era. He knew the lyrics to the songs he played, and he sang! Despite not being able to hit the correct notes, he sang! And I loved it! I tried singing along with him even if I didn't know all the words, and it brought us closer even more. We felt connected - as we shared the love for the same songs, we felt our love for each other. It was magical. This is probably why I wanted to write about that experience, so that I would always remember that magic.

There are times when Choi and I fight, argue, and even say some mean things to each other. But I guess it's important that we remember how these unpleasant experiences are easily outweighed by all the fond memories we have of each other - of all the loving experiences we share. Fights are normal. It's part of relationships. These fights though shouldn't end relationships but rather strengthen it.

Listening to those old songs is just one of the ways I shall forever be reminded of Choi's love.

love, music, choi
