A Partner for Max, Our Chihuahua

I have seriously been thinking of giving Max an opportunity to mate and have babies of his own. Aside from having an outlet for his very active sexual urges, I would really want him to passdown his good genes, particularly his apple-head, soft glossy brown coat, and his small size. He has the makings of a champion. If I were a breeder, I might even consider entering him in canine competitions.

Max is already a year and 8 months old and more than ready to impregnate a female chihuahua. At first, I thought of just searching for a female chihuahua Max can have a baby with, but it was easier said than done. I tried asking one of my friends if Max could mate with one of her female chihuahuas, but unfortunately her chihuahuas are not yet ready to mate since they had just recently given birth. I tried searching the internet too but apparently, the owners with male chihuahuas are the ones who advertise. Owners with female dogs are the ones looking for "studs" to mate with their dogs. I didn't want to advertise Max over the internet though because of the hassle involved. Aside from that, I don't even know how to stud. If ever I do offer Max's "services", I should also probably partner with a person who's knowledgeable on mating dogs. Instead of going through that though, I thought maybe it would be better if I just got a female chihuahua. That way, Max will have a permanent female companion. He can have more than one litter of puppies that way.

I began my search for a female chihuahua puppy by visiting the place where we got Max and Thor before - the Pet Village in Tiendesitas, Ortigas City. We went there last week - May 1. We went around the different stalls there and saw a couple of chihuahuas but none of them really met our standards. Most of the chihuahuas there were fawn-colored and very typical looking. None of them were even had heads as apple-shaped as Max. What I was really looking for was a female dog with physical characteristics that resembled Max's - small, tri-colored (brown, tan, white), and has an apple-head. We left Tiendesitas without a puppy.

Last Friday, I tried my luck online. I just went to google and searched for "female chihuahua puppies". The first couple of hits were all online ads. I first went to ayosdito.com and then went to sulit.com.ph. I was able to find a lot of female chihuahuas being advertised - from puppies to adults almost in heat. I narrowed down my options by choosing chihuahuas that fit what I was looking for. The winner though was the dog below. He is more expensive compared to the other chihuahuas on sale, but I think he's worth it (although I'll still try to haggle on the price if ever I do decide to get her). What I love about this puppy is the color of her coat and how the tan and the white areas add more character to her. She also looks very healthy.

I got to contact her owner yesterday already. She told me that this puppy is still with her. She wasn't able to sell her since she was out of the country the past two weeks. She'll be taking more recent pictures of this puppy and the rest of the litter over the weekend and will probably email me a copy of the pictures. Once I get to see the pictures, I'll probably set an appointment with her so that I could meet her and the puppies in person. There are a lot of questions I would want to ask the breeder about the puppy before I decide to purchase it, such as the history of the puppy, the lineage (her parents) and what her parents are like, etc. In addition to that, I would also want to observe the puppy's behavior and overall temperament. I would want a playful active dog, but one that won't exert her dominance over other dogs. I might even bring Max and Thor so that they could meet the puppy. I would want to know if they would be able to get along, although I know that it would take more time for dogs to get along.

Anyway, I can't wait to see the pictures tomorrow and to meet up with the puppy over the weekend. If ever I do decide to get this puppy, it would be my advanced birthday gift for myself. I think my family would accept it. I'll be paying for the puppy myself anyway, and I'll really make sure to take care of it.

wishes, dogs
