Couple of random notes: Physically I am doing much better now than I was
at the beginning of the week -- at this point there's a strong feeling of
exhaustion, but that's about all that remains of my illness. I'm enjoying
taking some time off from all responsibilities; next week I'll probably go
into partial vacation mode, and work from home for a week or two until I
feel like I'm up to speed again (and probably get more done from working at
home, anyway).
The shock over finalizing my decision has mostly passed at this point; it
lasted for about two days, but then I started getting used to the idea of
living on the east coast for a few years. The thoughts drifted from "I'm
going to live in Philadelphia?", to "I'm going to live in
Philadelphia for half a decade?", to "I wonder what internet
service is like near the campus..." -- I presume the last thought is a good
sign ^_^;
I don't have any serious concerns about Penn. I do have some concerns remaining
about Philadelphia, and I think I would've had a hard time moving from
Pasadena to Philadelphia, given how much I love Pasadena. But the area I'm
in is rather blah (I'm really not fond of the area I live in right now), so
the more I think about it, the more Philadelphia is looking like a very
positive step. It's encouraging that I'm warming up to Philadelphia over
time.
And weather -- in less than a year I'll actually experience
weather again -- I can't wait! Glee! ^_^
