train me baby

Feb 23, 2008 19:41

Day one of training for the home depot is down. It was a long day. I left the house about 7:20, scraped the windows of the car and made it to tigard to the training center. There are about 30 people in the class from different home depots around the area. There were (I think) 3 people besides me from my store. I was one of the oldest people there (I don't know when that switched, I used to be one of the youngest in the room at all the functions...). There were a lot of 20 year olds. There were a lot of people that this was thier first or second job EVER and they had a lot of questions.
The trainer is dynamic and funny so that makes it tolerable and a lot better.
Training will be an ongoing, forever thing while at The Home Depot. But it'll all look good on a resume if needed.
Most everything has lived up to the reputation of HD treating thier employees nicely. They had a pretty bad head honcho for a little while, he is gone now and they are reinstating quite a few of the "good for associates" programs that this bob guy got rid of. This is also during the time that customer service plummeted and there was a lot of turnover. HOPEFULLY reinstating some of the associate programs will help retain people and make customer service much better.
so far so good...
more training tomorrow.
