So, Diablo 3 is pretty awesome. My wife tried one of my guest passes and 2 days later we had to go out and get her her own copy, she enjoyed it so much. She's got a monk and a wizard right around level 20, being a combined 40-ish levels, I'd say she's enjoying it. Which surprises me in a good way. We played StarCraft 2 a bit together when it came out but she only enjoyed it to the point of playing it with me. I don't think she ever touched the single player. Diablo 3, though, her wizard is her solo char and she's tearing it up.
I finished up Normal difficulty a few days ago with a Demon Hunter, which I enjoyed. I admit I had to seek a public group to kill the end boss and I feel no shame in doing so. I was doing ok against him on solo in to the second phase of the fight (there are 3 phases) and he'd always spawn an enemy beside me before I could recover. Using a pub group resulted in victory but I wouldn't say it went entirely smoothly.
Still, been having a blast. Nightmare difficulty isn't harder, per se, but the mobs hit me much harder. The bloated zombies in Act 1 hit me for about 1/3rd of my health pool, which is kind of nutty. However, I think this may be because my gear is mostly dexterity spec'ced and I could probably use a boost to my vitality. My barbarian, only level 20, has exceeded my Demon Hunter in health pool capacity by several hundred points already, and my Demon Hunter is around level 38 I think.
So, I've taken a bit of time to play each of the classes so far, except for monk, which I just haven't gotten around to yet.
Demon Hunter was my first, and I liked her. I was almost always a Paladin in D2, so I figured I would roll ranged the first go around. I enjoyed it. But I found Diablo's hotkey bar not very intuitive for evasive maneuvers. It works, if only barely.
Barbarian, though, I have to say, I'm having a blast with. lol, and I even rolled a female one. She's a manly babe. But I just feel so strong, I mean, even my regular blows feel like they have real impact. And the leap -> ground smash -> whirlwind combo just doesn't get old. I think Barbarian may quickly become my favorite class if re-gearing my Demon Hunter doesn't provide the relief in Nightmare that I'm seeking.
Wizard is ok. I made one to play with my wife. She rolled a monk to play specifically with me. I don't feel strong. I mean, I feel that my magic attacks should do serious damage and they don't. Just kind of ok. They got the squishy part right, though, I can't take but a hit or two before I have to run for cover. Her spells look really snazzy but just don't pack the firepower I was expecting.
Witch Doctor... eh. A lot of folks on the forum like him because his abilities are just crazy. Mine is only level 9 but I'm thusfar finding it the least entertaining. We'll see, I guess, when I get bored of Demon Hunter and Barbarian. And like I said, I haven't tried monk yet. My wife likes hers, and I've read they're beastly so we'll see.
The Auction House is an ok idea, but not really necessary. I use it mainly to sell rares I don't need. Pretty much any yellow quality item I get that I don't need for one of my chars I toss on the Auction House for 2-3k buyout. I don't buy a lot of stuff on there, but the little I did I was able to find other players who seem to share my low-pricing philosophy as I've never spent more than 3k on a single piece of equipment. But then, everything I've gotten from there has been in the level 20-30's range, and not the end-game stuff. So we'll see.
I don't like the fact that the game doesn't have a true offline mode. The always online DRM scheme they have going is a load of horseshit meant to discourage piracy but I promise you, this game will be pirated if it hasn't already. Hackers always find a way. And this always online nonsense makes everyone a target for hackers and gold farmers. It's unnecessary, and kind of a slap to the face of loyal customers who planned on buying the shit out of the game anyway.
The addition of the chat room, similar to WoW's chat is nice. I've found most of the community to be pretty polite. The only downside is occasional spam for gold farmer bots. I don't know why anyone would want to buy gold for this game. WoW I kind of understand, but Diablo, I just don't get it at all.
So anyways, great game. I put up my Battle.net tag a few days ago in my last post if anyone gets it sometime down the road.
