Happy birthday to me

Mid-way in to my birthday today and the retail world seems to love me.  Over the last week I've had numerous birthday coupons e-mailed to me that we decided to take advantage of.  Coupons included concessions at our local movie theatre, discounts on pre-owned games, a free shake, and a couple others.

So far for my birthday we've seen Wolverine.  It wasn't bad.  I actually kind of think I like Origins more.  I don't fear for spoiling the movie here as it was advertised in the commercials, but Logan spends a portion of the movie with his healing factor suppressed and takes some hits and bullets and such that leave him bloody and limping.  When he finally regains use of his healing factor, the following fight sequence was very well done and made me pretty pumped.  I felt the downside was that, I guess with some films, when they want an authentic experience they hire an authentic actor with the desired background, ethnicity, heritage, etc.  I found the actress that played Mariko barely tolerable.  Wooden.  Kind of like the kid opposite Clint Eastwood in Gran Torino.  They hire these actors that don't speak terribly great english, or have a very, very thick accent and it's very distracting.  I also thought the way Silver Samurai was lame.

All in all, the Japan storyline in the comics saw Logan embrace Japanese culture, traditions, samurai code, etc.  He never really used a sword, or wore any Japanese garb.  Or take part in any rituals or activities of cultural significance with love interest Mariko.  It was just Wolverine.  In Japan.  And AFTER the events of the third X-Men movie, rather than an origin story.  I dunno.  Not spoiling anything, but I'm not happy with how the final fight went.  It left certain aspects of Logan's character in a comprimised state and I don't know how they'll rectify that in the next movie.  I guess we'll see.  I kind of wished we'd gone to see Pacific Rim instead, which I haven't followed in the least.  I just know lots of people loved it.

Melissa got me a plethora of games including Singularity, Enslaved, Deus Ex: HR, and RAGE.  She also found the coveted Viva Pinata: Trouble in Paradise.  The first four are courtesy of the BOGO sale going on right now at GameStop.  I've played them all at some point and loved them, but traded them when they still had good value.  Now that the value is gone and they're dirt cheap I couldn't be happier to have them.  And soon I'll have to delve in to Viva Pinata again, after many, many years since the last time.

Free game rental of Lollipop Chainsaw.  Don't like it very much.  I knew it'd be goofy but I was hoping for something more along the lines of what Bayonetta was, and uh, this is not quite that.  I've got until Thursday and I read the main storyline takes maybe 6-7 hours so I'll push through.

That's it so far.  Being treated to birthday dinner at Hard 8 BBQ at about 7pm courtesy of my in-laws.  Actually looking forward to that, though not too excited about the crowds and parking on a Saturday night.
