So now that my bar exams are done, I finally have the time to devote to serious activities . . . like getting back in touch with my Xbox. I've been meaning for a long time now to play POP, not the least because I've borrowed that disk for way too long from Ted.
I'm well into the game now. The puzles are - for the most part - a lot of fun. However, I have a serious beef with whoever designed that camera. In the immortal words of Jay Sherman, "it stinks!" I hate fighting the camera when playing a game. Then again, how important is it really to be able to see while engaged in combat? I don't mind mashing buttons while staring at a beautifully bit-mapped wall.
Speaking of combat, oy. Mash those buttons! Pull those triggers! Yea, isn't that fun? The combat could have been thought out much, much better. Very repetitive and mindless. Its a shame that they sullied an otherwise good platformer with such a lousy and uninspired combat engine.
Overall, I'm enjoying the game sans the combat. The camera is frustrating but with three different angles I can usually deal with it in the end. In ain't Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom, but its an OK game.
Indy has a much better combat engine and - let's face it - a much more interesting lead character. Who cares about some spoiled sultan's son? Indy has style. Now if I can just figure out some way to get Indy's whip into the hands of the POP. . . .
