Its been a pretty good day, I suppose. I didn't get a lot of sleep last night, for various reasons. Still, I've varried my work enough today that I was able to stay focused.

I attended a seminar this morning on the use of the QTIP election and the new pitfalls it holds for estate planning and tax purposes. Geez, I used to really know this stuff, but today's lecture went right over my head. But it also was above all the other lawyers in my conference center.

It feels like my office is moving away from estate planning and moving more into the area of collections. I actually don't mind that too much. Child support enforcement is rewarding . . . the best feeling I've ever had as a lawyer is getting money into the hands of a single-mom from a deadbeat dad.

I read a column earlier today written by a Democrat who wants Tom Delay to stay in office so that the Demos have someone to exploit in the next election. What a horrible position to take! What's more important, good government or electoral exploitation? This person is as cynical and evil as Delay. I thought we were above the Republicans when it came to issues like these. (One of the reasons I have such a hard time listening to "air America" is that I like to think liberals are above the self-righteous pandemic that pervades right-wing talk radio.)

It occurs to me that history will judge a government ultimately by the way it treats its weakest citizens. How does that reflect on the USA? Pretty good, I think. Overall the USA rates much better than I suspect most people will give it credit for. But in one area we must improve: health care. Its almost scandalous that we do not have universal health care for our citizens.

My bar books are done and I didn't get a zinger letter from Gina! Woohoo!! Money in the bank and I'll be asked to grade next exam. I suspect I'll see a lot of the same examinees next time since so many of my books were dreadful.

Enough for now. Gotta get back to work.
