I'm afraid, however, that I no longer have faith in the honesty of "fans"; the same people who bitch now will cry that their free mid-quality anime isn't high quality enough and use THAT to justify their theft.
(ETA: I also don't think it's fair to leave the entirety of the blame on the industry itself for failing to adapt quickly enough to satisfy the current generation of instant-gratification junkies and enablers -- people who are accustomed to all their media being essentially free, and the people who enable that behavior.)
