So, I just had the pleasure of seeing Micheal Moore's "SiCKO" on DVD. The Movie opened my eyes. Free, Universal Healthcare is found in ever advanced nation in the world except the US. Countries like France, England, Canada, and even Cuba have amazing systems of healthcare that are FREE and AVAILABLE TO ALL.
Look, Regardless of how you feel, this is not about Micheal Moore, this about DOING SOMETHING. Our Nation has problems (and unless you're part of the wealthy 1%, you know it first hand), Problems that the rest of the advanced nations of the world have managed to do something about (Take at look at how they handle things in Norway). If the rest of the industrialised nation can do something... then why not US? Why can't the wealthiest nation in the world do something when everyone else has been able to? What's stopping us?
Yes, a good chunk of Washington has been bought by special interests (don't deny it, you know it's true). But the fact still remains that THE US IS A DEMOCRACY and the ONE THING that politicians need more than large piles of Money is VOTES!! We the people have immense power to change things, we're just too subjugated to take full advantage of it. We're shackled by Debt, Fear, and Ignorance. This takes power away from the people and keeps real change from happening.
WE AS A DEMOCRATIC PEOPLE HAVE THE POWER TO MAKE GREAT CHANGE. IF THERE IS SOMETHING THAT YOU WANT, YOU HAVE THE FULL RIGHT TO THREATEN YOUR ELECTED OFFICIALS WITH NOT VOTING FOR THEM!!. THEY NEED THE VOTES, AND YOU'RE THE ONLY ONE THAT CAN GIVE IT TO THEM!! EXERCISE YOUR RIGHT TO CONTROL YOUR ELECTED OFFICIALS!! THEY DO NOT CONTROL YOU!
* Americans work more than any other advanced nation in the world, yet we reap the least amount of reward from our labor.
* Americans pay the most (including taxes) out of any other advanced nation for healthcare, yet we are have the highest population of sick people, the highest mortality rate, the shortest lifespan, and the most expensive drugs.
* Americans have Government Regulated and Socialized systems like Mail, Water, Electricity, Police, Fire, and Libraries. Yet, we put our HEALTHCARE, our very lives, in the hands of stockholder-based corporations whose SOLE PURPOSE is to increase their profits (don't believe me? Then name me ONE publicy-traded company who isn't in it to make profits. Name me just ONE!)
* A Company that has to pay out money to the people who use it (i.e. Medical Expenses) is NOT a company that turns a Profit. A Company that DOES NOT have to pay out Money (i.e. Deny Payment of Medical Expenses) will turn a Profit and appease the shareholders.
* America's Healthcare System is ranked 37th in the World, right above Slovenia (France is #1, BTW)
* America as a whole is ranked 12th on the UN's Human Development Index . We're not even in the Top 10. For being as Powerful as we think we are, that's just sad.
Look, as I said.. this is irregardless of your political, religious, or idealogical background. I'm not asking you to take everything Micheal Moore says at face value. He's not the end all of facts and information. But he DOES offer a new way of seeing things, he opens our eyes to new possibilities. You don't have to accept it, but only a Truely Ignorant Person would outright refuse to even acknowledge it. Take the information that Micheal Moore presents and do the research for yourself. That's what I did. Heck, that's what the Internet is for!!
There are Problems with this world and Micheal Moore is, at the very least, DOING SOMETHING ABOUT IT. That's more than a good chuck of American Citizens can say they're doing. If you don't acknowledge his ideas and his information. At the very least acknowledge the fact that he's doing something.
I saw his movie, I saw the information he was presenting. It opened my eyes, so I did the research for myself and I found it to be both true and factual. This information is world changing. It's appalling just how bad a nation we are when compared to the rest of the world.
I urge you to see for yourself and do something. This is your world, you need to make the steps to make it a better place.
