Track 02. Hey they found a body not sure it was his but they’re using his name (Tori Amos - ‘Past the Mission’)
FROM HOUSE, M.D. EPISODE 4x03 “97 SECONDS”
Some days people just sit and wonder what the hell they’re doing. Some days I sit and wonder what the hell House is doing. Just when I thought he couldn’t get any more stupid, he goes and does something like sticking a flick knife into an electrical socket and nearly kills himself. They say curiosity killed the cat, but I’m pretty damn sure the cat had no idea of impending doom. House, on the other hand, knew exactly what danger he was flirting with and still went ahead and acted like a complete idiot. He never considers anyone else in his needs to find all the answers to everything… I know he certainly doesn’t consider me.
But all that is beside the point. He deliberately electrocuted himself to try and discover what the afterlife was like. The fact that the term ‘afterlife’ clearly indicates a level of death was irrelevant. For a genius, he sure does the best impression of a goddamn stupid, dense idiot that I’ve ever come across. The call came to me halfway through a Board meeting. Cuddy and I both knew when Taub came knocking on the door that it wasn’t going to be good news or good anything and that House was going to be at the epicentre of whatever the hell it was.
When I finally managed to get away to see him, he was still unconscious. All I wanted to do was hit him. The fact he wasn’t awake made the yearning even more strong because it would’ve been extremely satisfying to grab a pillow and smack him in the head with it a few hundred times. It certainly would’ve been cathartic for me. Would it really have mattered if it hurt him? What’s a bit of a headache after you’ve nearly killed yourself via electrocution?
When he woke, I called him an idiot. It wasn’t nearly as satisfying as using physical force, but I’m not cruel enough to commit physical abuse to someone on their sick bed, self-inflicted or not. It was rather satisfying to see he was in pain, however. He shouldn’t have come out of that stupidity attack unscathed, cripple or not. The most infuriating part was he didn’t seem phased. It was just another day in the life of Gregory House, M.D. Which, by the way, doesn’t stand for Medicinae Doctor… it stands for Massive Dickhead.
