Finale time

May 27, 2016 16:25

So since my last post I've watched quite a few season finales. The first one up was:

"Criminal Minds" - 11x22 (season finale) - I thought this was a pretty good finale and seemed to set things up quite nicely for season 12 (with the escaped prisoners). I don't think it was as good as the epic ones they used to do but hardly any shows seem to go all out for finales anymore which is slightly disappointing. I think this season has been generally good though and some of the episodes reminded me of the earlier episodes.

On Monday night I also watched "Bones" - 11x16 - I thought this episode was pretty good. The case of the week was okay but the best thing about this episode for me was Aubrey (actually he's the best thing about every episode for me!) and I liked their friendly teasing of him at the end. I hope we get some Aubrey-centric stuff soon. He deserves it.

On Tuesday night it was time for another finale "Blindspot" - 1x23 (season finale) - I thought this episode was a good finale. I think the early renewal meant they could write something good without having to worry about cancellation. If Jane isn't Taylor Shaw then who is she? I felt so sorry for Weller when he found Taylor Shaw's body which proved that his dad's death bed confession was true (and what he said before about not hurting Taylor was a lie). Does Jane even know who she really is? I think she trusted the wrong people and has ended up hurting everyone in the process. Mayfair is dead. Weller's had to deal with the loss of Taylor again (and the fact that his dad was responsible) and now she's got to try and get everyone's trust back again.

I'm interested in seeing where things can go from here. I think this season has generally been good - there have been some weak episodes but there have also been some really good ones.

Then on Wednesday night I watched "Containment" - 1x06 - I thought this episode was quite good. I'm enjoying the scenes between Jake and Katie inside the cordon and hope they both survive at the end so they can explore the feelings they obviously have for each other. I thought it was good seeing Lex teaming up with that reporter to try and find the truth (whatever that is). I'm glad that he's following his instincts now and not just doing what he's told. I think he's known something was right from the beginning. I'm interested in seeing where things go from here.

"The Flash" - 2x23 (season finale) - I thought this finale was a good one but not quite as good as last years (but that was always gonna be hard to beat really). I'm glad we found out who the man in the iron mask was and I wasn't really that surprised by the big reveal that it was the Earth 2 version of Barry's father (I had a feeling that his throw away comment about Garrick being his mothers maiden name was gonna mean something) but it was cool seeing John Wesley Shipp in that Flash costume again. I am finding it quite hard to keep up with the Earth 2 timeline though - is Jay Garrick Earth 2 Barry Allen's father then? But then why isn't Earth 2 Barry Allen called Garrick? If I think about it too much it hurts my brain!

I thought Grant Gustin did a good job with the emotional stuff and I felt sorry for Barry. He just doesn't think rationally when he's grieving as shown by the events at the end of this episode. With him going back and saving his mother surely that means that the whole timeline has changed (and in that timeline Barry might not even have become the Flash so couldn't have been there in the first place and even if he was the Flash then he might not have even made the decision to go back and save his mother. Timey wimey). I'm interested in seeing where season three is gonna start. How long will the new timeline last and will Barry end up going back and making things the way they were again?

Oh, and I'm glad Zoom died. I wonder what next seasons big bad will be? All in all, I've enjoyed this season but don't think it was quite as good as season 1. Still a great show though!

"Stitchers" - 2x10 (spring finale) - I'm not quite sure what Spring finale even means. Does it mean we might get some more episodes in the Winter or something? Anyway, I thought this was a really good finale (although not as good as last years but that was always gonna be hard to beat). I was quite surprised by the reveal that Kirsten's mother is still alive - or was still alive. Is she now? And if so then where is she? - and I felt really sorry for Kirsten when she said she just wanted to be with her Mum. I was glad we got some great Cameron and Kirsten scenes but I'm kinda torn because Cameron is with Nina now so shouldn't really be going around kissing other women (although, you could argue that Kirsten kissed him first). I expected Nina to be standing there though which I actually think could have been quite good. It was a great kiss though - especially as we'd been waiting 2 seasons!

I'm interested in who the kid Cameron actually is - is it her father? And if so then why is he doing it? Is he helping her? I thought the final scene was really good though when adult Cameron managed to control kid Cameron in the stitch. I wonder if he can bring Kirsten back? And why did this episode have to end this way? Not only with the cliffhanger of Kirsten being in the stitch but also with the stuff about Maggie and Linus' father. Especially when we don't even know if there is gonna be a season 3!

I thought the scenes between Fisher and Camille were good too - obviously she's starting to like him now just as his ex-wife has come back on the scene. I could definitely be on board with something happening between them. I've enjoyed this season but not quite as much as season 1. I think the show started too early this year as it fit really nicely in the summer schedule when all of my other shows had finished.

Then last night featured some more finales! There's gonna be nothing on next week!

"Arrow" - 4x23 (season finale) - I thought this was a pretty decent finale but sometimes I think this show has got a bit too serious these days. I'm glad they managed to defeat Damien Darkh in the end but I thought the whole "saving the whole world" thing was a bit much for this show and hope they get back to slightly simpler things next season.

It felt quite sad at the end when the team all went their separate ways - with Laurel dead, Diggle taking some time away and Thea needing some space, just Oliver and Felicity were left in the Arrow lair (or whatever they call it). I wonder how things are gonna start next season? Oh, and Oliver is the mayor now? How's that gonna go? And the flashbacks have come full circle now with Oliver (I assume) heading back to Star(ling) City. Does that mean the flashbacks are over?

All in all, I've enjoyed this season for the most part but I don't think it was as good as the previous three. Hoping for a return to form in season 5.

"Supernatural" - 11x23 (season finale) - I thought this season finale was much better than last weeks episode and I always enjoy "Carry On My Wayward Son" playing at the beginning as a season recap.

I hope this is the last we see of Amara as I really haven't enjoyed this ongoing storyline - I do think the way they defeated her (or whatever) seemed too easy. If it was as easy as that then why didn't they do it 23 episodes ago? It almost seemed anticlimactic.

I thought the scenes when Dean was saying goodbye to everyone (after being willing to sacrifice himself. Again) were quite sad. I Especially liked the moment between Cas and, of course, Sam.

And now that Woman of Letter has showed up. What's that all about? Why do they want to kill Sam and Dean? And their mother is back? Was that what Amara meant when she said that she would give Dean what he wants? Interesting. I wonder what season 12 is gonna be like?

I thought this season was quite good generally. The monster of the week episodes were really good (and reminiscent of season 1) but the ongoing storyline episodes were really boring and dragged the whole season down.

I also watched the season 4 finale of "Elementary" which I thought was okay - I didn't really get it, to be honest. I'm hoping for some more case of the week episodes next season.

I've got hardly any shows to watch now :(
