I watched the final of "The Voice UK" last night - it dragged on a bit and some of the song choices weren't great but in the end Stevie won it for Team Ricky so it was awesome! As the episode went on (and on) I really thought Lucy had it in the bag - she was so good and Will was tweeting continuously and she was very popular on twitter herself but I guess tweets don't always translate into votes (there were probably a lot of people watching that aren't on twitter or don't tweet during the show) - so when they announced Stevie as the winner I think I was just as surprised as he seemed to be. I loved Ricky's reaction too - he just seemed so genuinely happy for Stevie and it was really nice to see. They also seem to have got really close during the competition which is something they really haven't shown on the show which is a shame because it probably would have shown more of Stevie's personality - I guess that's where we miss the "Louder on Two" spin off.
I thought the duets were good - I was wondering what would happen given that Ricky had two acts there. I thought the Emmanuel duet was quite good but Emmanuel seemed to stumble a bit with the lyrics (or maybe timing, I'm not sure) so Ricky had to take control a little bit to help him out (which then made people think Ricky was making it all about him which he wasn't really). The duet with Stevie was just fun - they both sounded good (in fact, Ricky's vocals were on point last night) and just seemed to be enjoying themselves which I think was the point. Sasha seems to sing better when she's with Tom - I don't know why but it just brings the best out of her and she can easily match his vocals - and Will and Lucy, well, what can you say about that really? I wondered what they were gonna do as a duet but it actually really worked. I'm sure Lucy won't be going back to be an usher now everyone knows what she's capable of.
So, that's "The Voice UK" over for another year - I enjoyed watching it this time around (well, I enjoyed watching Ricky every Saturday night and I grew to love his acts by association) although not quite as much as last years but this time the pay off at the final was better with Team Ricky emerging victorious!
Incidentally, I think we all had Stevie pegged as a finalist (and possible winner) right from the beginning. Should have put a bet on him after his blind audition. As it was a victory for Team Ricky meant I won £11.88 (and £5 of that was my original bet back - so I won like £6! Lol!)!
Oh, and after watching that VT, I've decided I want to go to the zoo with Ricky Wilson. And how adorable were his interactions with Stevie's little girl? Awww.
I hope Ricky comes back again next year!
After that excitement (lol) I watched
H50 5x20
I thought this episode was pretty good and I liked the fact that we finally had something Grover centric - although I'm not sure if his character is quite strong enough for a whole episode having the Danny and Dr Shaw stuff to balance it out helped.
I thought Chi McBride was outstanding in this episode - he's such a good dramatic actor so it was nice to see him given something like this to work with. I thought the scene when he first started to suspect his friend Clay was absolutely brilliant. Just the look of realisation and disgust on Grover's face was very well played. Such a small moment but so powerful. The scene when he explained to Steve, Chin and Kono why he knew his friend had done this was also pretty intense. The fact that he didn't let his friendship get in the way of his instincts showed so much about him. He just couldn't let it go because Clay's wife was his friend too. I also liked the support Steve gave him during the early scenes of the episode.
It was nice to see Danny again (again the fact that his storyline was away from the rest of the team makes me think Scott Caan wasn't available at the same time as the others again) and I actually really like his scenes with Dr Shaw. They're actually really good together - in a non romantic way (although I wouldn't be completely against it if they decided to go down that route but it's nice to see a male/female friendship). I think Dr Shaw is a good character and I hope we get to see more of her if season 6 happens. I thought the scenes in the lift were good and I liked the way she helped Danny through his claustrophobia induced panic attack and I really liked their little scene at the end. I would like to see more of that please.
It was a shame that both of those storylines didn't include much of Steve, Chin and Kono (with only five more episodes left after this hopefully they'll be more core four centric) but it was nice to see that side of Grover (incidentally, for some reason I thought him and his wife weren't together anymore - I thought she was back in Chicago? I must be remembering that wrong, or confusing it with another show.).
In other news: I'm heading to the O2 Arena tonight to see McBusted. And I've only listened to their album once. Whoops. Hopefully they'll only do a couple from it and McFly and McBusted songs for the most part.
