Everybody's doing a brand new dance now

So, last night we headed to the O2 Arena in London to see Kylie Minogue. As I mentioned yesterday Dave really wanted to see Kylie and I only went along to keep him company - and because he's been to see other artists that he doesn't really want to see with me before. So, yeah. A bit of a trade off.

We arrived there just after 7.30pm and her support act was already there - I didn't really notice it was a support act as it was some DJ I'd never heard of (he's quite famous in the field apparently) just standing there with the decks playing old songs. I didn't really see the point in it, if I'm honest, and found his set quite boring. Especially in an arena setting.

Kylie came out at just after 8.30pm and performed for two hours. She did a mixture of new and old stuff. I think the first few songs were from her current album and I didn't know them (and didn't think much of them either to be fair) but she also did the classics like 'Spinning Around" and "Can't Get You Out Of My Head" and other songs I knew including "On A Night Like This", "Wow", "Step Back In Time" and "Kids".

The high light for me though was the little 80's section in the middle that featured "Hand On Your Heart", "Never Too Late", "Got To Be Certain" and, of course, "I Should Be So Lucky". I'm not ashamed to admit that I was a big of her back in the day - when I was about 10 I had the cassettes and VHS tapes and everything. I thought she was the greatest! Hearing "I Should Be So Lucky" was worth the ticket price for me.

Each song was performed pretty well and the whole show was very polished - she was very likable on stage and interacted with the crowd pretty well during some moments (when she was "taking requests" and did "Locomotion" towards the end). And vocally she was pretty good - although slightly digitally enhanced - and her backing singers were very good and were on hand to cover up any vocal weaknesses from Kylie.

It was a pretty fun night and Dave seemed to enjoy it - I don't think I would want to see her again though. Not now I've seen and heard "I Should Be So Lucky" live.
