I love you, you know.

H50 4x21

I wouldn't put this episode up there with my favourites but there were some things in it that I really loved.

I loved the character progression of Steve. The torture scenes were incredibly hard to watch but it was really interesting seeing Steve like that. He was actually scared. Like proper scared. He was in a situation that he couldn't find a way out of and he thought he was going to die. He was begging for his life. I don't think we've ever seen Steve like that before and it was heartbreaking to watch. Maybe the events in this episode were the final straw for him, maybe we're gonna see some of his PTSD next season (or maybe even next episode but as that's the finale they might not have time for it there). Alex O'Loughlin did a great job of showing Steve's more vulnerable side and I think he'll do a great job with any intense that might be ahead for Steve in season 5.

I also loved that the military people came and told him off - I think that's been a long time coming. Someone (apart from Danny) has needed to tell Steve to stop doing all this crazy stuff. He's not a SEAL anymore and he has no reason to keep going to these other countries and doing these things. He needed to hear that from someone important (not that Danny's not important, you know what I'm saying) so I'm glad that scene happened.

I thought the Steve and Danny scenes were brilliant - I'm glad we got to see how close their friendship is in this episode as well as the Steve and Catherine stuff (more on that later). I especially loved the hospital scenes and when Danny refused to leave when he was asked to step outside. I thought it was really nice to have him travel to Afghanistan when he probably didn't really need to be there - in a mission capacity - but he needed to be there for his friend. I don't know what Steve was so surprised. Surely he knows how much Danny cares about him by now.

I know a lot of the fandom dislike Catherine (I've never really understood why. I'm sure I remember everyone being really happy when she was announced as a regular). I'm not one of those people. I don't hate her character but she isn't one of my favourites and I don't think she's a strong enough character - or actress - to carry an episode focused just on her so I was pleased that this episode was balanced out by Chin, Danny and Kono having a case to solve back on Hawaii. I thought the case of the week was interesting enough and I liked seeing the three of them working together. It felt like we hadn't seen that in ages.

So, Catherine. I thought her storyline was quite good - I thought the flashbacks worked really well in giving us some backstory and making us understand why this was so important to her. I thought her decision to stay there to try and find that missing kid kinda made sense (although I think it would have been slightly better if they'll killed her off, however, I don't think Steve could have handled that so maybe this was the better writing decision). The scene of her saying goodbye to Steve over the phone was really sad - and nearly made me cry. Mainly because Steve just looked so broken and I felt so bad for him. I wonder if we'll see Catherine again?

I would like to say that I'll miss Catherine but, to be honest, I'm not sure if I actually will. I don't think this show has ever been good with love stories and writing love interests (maybe it never will be?) and I think with Catherine gone now it'll be good for it to focus on the kind of relationships it is good at: the friendships. The family. The strength of this show has always been the Ohana so for next season I'd like to see more of that and less love interests.

Speaking of friendships, I thought the opening scene of this episode was really nice - seeing every body there together. I'd like to see more of that.

After that I watched "Star-Crossed" - 1x05 - I thought this episode was pretty good. Things seemed to have picked up a little bit again which is good. I think there's quite a lot of interesting things in this show. I hope it can build on them and resolve them nicely when inevitable cancellation comes.

Finally I watched "The Tomorrow People" - 1x17 - I thought this episode was pretty good too. I really can't figure Jedikiah out. One minute I want to trust him and think he's a good guy and the next minute I think he's a really bad person and I don't trust him at all! I think Mark Pellegrino has done a great job playing that ambiguity. Is he really all the things Founder said? Or is he trying to do the right thing?

I thought the storyline with Cara and her sister was quite good - we saw her sister before, didn't we? Briefly when Cara left home - and I liked that Cara gave her the option to not be a tomorrow person, to just have a normal life. It did make me wonder though, I know Cara gave her sister that wristband thing to stop her powers so she could have a normal life. What if she hadn't? Would her sister been made the join them, to leave her whole life? Could she not have just controlled the powers - like everyone else seems to be able to - and carry on as usual? Why did her powers mean she had to join their cause?

Things are getting pretty interesting as he head towards the finale (with only five episodes to go).
