This is gonna be a pretty long post! Just giving you fair warning.
First up is thoughts from my shows on Wednesday night.
NCIS LA 4x22
I didn't know what this episode was even gonna be about but I ended up enjoying it as usual. Loved the Deeks scenes (have I mentioned that I love him?) and the flirting between him and Kensi is verging on ridiculous now! I love all of their scenes together though. Loved the banter about Deeks being in a rock band when he was in high school and her teasing him about it. The scenes of them in the hotel room were crazy and I loved that Deeks just continues to press all of her buttons. And Nell always seems to find herself in an awkward situation where they're concerned. And Kensi with her "he started it". Lol! I also loved her comment about him not just being a pretty rock star when he came up with a great idea. It almost annoyed me when everyone was surprised about it because Deeks is a good cop so it shouldn't really be surprising, should it? He knows his shit.
The Hetty and Callen stuff was pretty good too - it's always interesting when we get a little more information about both of them. Hetty sure is a mysterious person, isn't she?
Oh, I also really liked the stuff between Callen and Sam at the beginning when Sam was telling Callen he had to come to his daughter's party. Aww. I would have loved to see some scenes from the party actually. I can imagine they'd have been fun. With Callen as Professor Lupin I wonder who Deeks and Kensi would have been?
We've only got two more episodes to go now (eek!) but next weeks looks almost Deeks-centric. Looking forward to it!
Then I watched "Chicago Fire" - 1x20 - another strong episode. I can understand some of the others being a bit annoyed about Peter Mills wanted to leave them but I can also understand him wanting to follow in his father's footsteps. I did love Casey's line about how the people they rescue don't care what truck you ride with. Now what the hell is this shit with Tara and Severide all about? Was it always her plan to accuse him to get back at him for what must have happened with her friend or is she annoyed that Severide didn't seem that interested in her? Poor Severide. I hope things work out in his favour because it's pretty obvious that he didn't do anything - judging by the scenes we saw anyway.
After that I watched "Bones" - 8x17 - I thought this episode was pretty cool and the new intern is kinda awesome! I hope we get to see him again sometime soon because I really liked his interaction with everyone (apart from Angela but that was because I thought she was annoying as usual) especially Hodgins. Although I think TJ Thyne has great chemistry with practically everyone so his scenes are usually good whoever he's with. I did like the scene when Brennan explained why they're all such a good team too. While I think the past few episodes have been pretty good this show doesn't seem to be working for me as much anymore. I wonder what direction season 9 is going to go in?
Finally on Wednesday I watched "Beauty and the Beast" - 1x16 - so have the task force fallen for Vincents plan and think that he's dead? Will they leave it alone now or will Tess tell all? Tess, of course knows more than she wanted to know now. And Vincent is in trouble! Great ending to this episode. I'm looking forward to what's gonna happen now. I was convinced this show was attempting to tie up all lose ends before the finale but now it's been renewed for season 2 so it doesn't need to do that now!
Now onto yesterday. I met Vicky after work and we headed up to Leicester Square for the London World Premiere of "Star Trek Into Darkness" When we first arrived we decided on a spot at the front right by the barriers a little bit away from where the main action would take place in the hope that maybe we could call anyone over if we needed too. However, after standing there for about 2 hours one of the security dudes told us we couldn't stand there and that once things started happening they'd ask us to move so we walked around the other side and found a pretty good spot one row back from the front right by where all the cars arrived it turned out. Even though throughout the whole thing people were still standing by where we originally were where we ended up turned out to be a really good spot as we had a great view of all of the guests as they arrived. Dave also joined us just before everything kicked off.
I think Chris Pine was the first of the main cast to arrive - he looked very spiffy in his suit and signed for quite a lot of people around our second, including the people infront of us! He came close to signing my Empire Magazine (last month issue which had ST on the front) but didn't. I can't remember the order of arrival now but in attendance were Simon Pegg (he walked passed our section and we didn't see him again, he either went straight in or was over near the front of the cinema), Zoe Saldana, Zachary Quinto, JJ Abrams, Karl Urban screenwriters Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman (who work on "Hawaii Five-0", of course, I would have loved to get their autographs but they didn't come anywhere near us and no-one else in our section knew he they were do did't call them over) and finally Benedict Cumberbatch. Most of them came over to our section - Benedict and JJ came super close but not close enough. I did manage to get autographs from Zoe Saldana (massive thanks to the girl infront of my for showing her my magazine and asking if she could sign it too) and Zachary Quinto which was pretty cool! Zachary also took the time to take photos with people and so did Benedict.
We also saw John Bishop, Hugh Bonneville and Dakota Blue Richards. They all came over to our section when called but I wasn't interested in getting their autographs (didn't really want to stop anyone from getting the autograph if they really wanted it).
We got a few random blurry pictures (I might put them on facebook later) but nothing major. It was a fun event though and at about 7.15 Dave and I had to leave to go to the Matt Cardle gig at Union Chapel in Islington (Vicky stayed a little later but said she didn't see anyone else after we left).
We got to the Union Chapel before 8pm but Matt didn't start til 9pm - the support acts were pretty decent and the venue itself was beautiful so it was nice to just sit there for a while (especially after I'd gone from work to standing for a while at the Trek premiere). When Matt came on he opened with "Letters" from his debut album - as this was a fully unplugged show everything was acoustic which was awesome. The acoustic sections at gigs are always my favourites but I don't think I'd been to a fully acoustic show before.
He performed a nice mixture of stuff from his debut album, second album and a selection of covers. Original Matt songs included "Amazing", "Faithless", "Water", "Anyone Else" and "It's Only Love". And the covers were "Thank U" (Alanis Morissette), "Set Fire To The Rain" (Adele), "You Know I'm No Good" (Amy Winehouse) and, of course, "When We Collide" (with some great ground singing when prompted by Matt) and "The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face" which he finished with. The way he performs that song is just incredible - I still think that the moment he won "The X Factor" was the moment he performed that song. At that moment no-one else was ever gonna win.
Every song was performed brilliantly and the acoustic nature of the gig showed how truly great his voice and vocal range is - and the venue itself had great acoustics which were perfectly suited to someone like him. Between every song he was very gracious and said "thank you" a lot! He always comes across really well between songs, I think. The crowd were very into it but knew when to sing a long and when to just listen and when Matt's singing most of the time people just listen.
Great gig and lovely venue. I'd love to see Matt again and I'd love to go to this venue again sometime.
Because I was out last night I've got some TV to catch up on, tonight and tomorrow night.
