SPN 8x09
I enjoyed this episode but not as much as last weeks.
It was good to see Benny again and I kinda liked the idea that Sam had sent someone to follow Benny to make sure he wasn't killing anyone. I'm not sure that sending Martin was the best idea though because he was clearly very unhinged. Even when Sam and Dean were in their most determined hunter stage they would never have put an innocent human in danger just to get the so called monster. I wasn't surprised at all that Benny turned on Martin in the end - assuming that's what happened and Elizabeth didn't do it or something. I hope Sam fully understands exactly what Martin did before he was killed though and doesn't do something crazy. I wonder if we'll see Benny again during the rest of the season?
I liked the way Dean wasn't willing to believe Benny had killed those people before finding proof - it makes sense that he would think that way given how much he trusts him (and he was right) - and I liked that Sam was willing to give him some time. While I can understand Dean being mad a Sam for not trusting Benny I can also understand it from Sam's point of view. It wasn't that long ago that Dean would have just killed the vampires and asked questions later. He was that kind of hunter too. Just because he's changed doesn't mean that everyone has.
The Amelia stuff was interesting too this week - although I did like the theory of her not being real so it's a shame that didn't play out. I quite liked it when Sam left so she wouldn't have to make the decision between Sam and Don herself. Sam was doing the right thing really. I also thought Don seemed like a pretty cool guy in that scene they had in the bar. I'm not sure how I feel about Dean swapping Amelia's phone (exactly when did he manage to do that? Did I miss something?), knowing how Sam feels about her. It didn't seem like a very nice thing to do even though I understand that Dean wanted to get Sam away from Benny. I wonder what's gonna happen next for them?
Honestly I really just want Sam and Dean to sit down and talk things through. I really think they need to do that. And I felt sorry for Sam when Dean said Benny was the only one he trusted, the only one who hadn't let him down. I kinda miss the days when Sam and Dean were a team and trusted only each other.
Incidentally, Elizabeth was played by Kathleen Monroe - who has been in everything ("Haven", "Alphas", CSI: NY", "Nikita", "Moonlight" etc) and was also in a previous episode of "Supernatural"! Episode 3x02 "The Kids Aren't Alright". It was weird seeing her back in this show but playing a completely different character.
So that was the midseason finale - and we have to wait til the new year for the next episode. Anyone know when that airs?
