RE Last Night's Episode of LOST...

Another great "payoff" episode! Here are my points from the show:

The statue! We finally get to see it in all it's full 30 story glory! Believe it or not, the statue has tons to say about what and where this island used to be. I learned from Lostpedia that the statue had on either hand ankhs, which reinforces further (along with the hieroglyphs scattered throughout the series) that the island's ancient inhabitants were very heavily influenced by Egypt. There was a tale told to a certain gentleman named Solon many centuries ago while visiting Egypt about a mythical island civilization with incredibly advanced technologies and people that got eventually swallowed up by the sea and vanished. Solon later related this tale to Plato, who then put it to paper, and became the basis for the myth of the lost civilization of Atlantis. Yes, that's what I think the island used to be.

Now that the history of the island is becoming more firmly in the ancient Egyptian camp, there are two names that pop out as relevant. The first is Horace (Horus) and the second is Richard Alpert. Why Richard Alpert? Look at his first two initials. That's right, Ra. Horus and Ra on an island heavily influenced by ancient Egypt motifs. This can't be just simple coincidence.

The wild theory I have about Richard Alpert now is that, if he is indeed a Total Immortal, then he could very well be the original Ra (as in the being that the ancient Egyptians based the mythical Ra off of). That would explain his fondness for wearing eye-liner. :)

I think it is so awesome that James has become the leader that has been foreshadowed for so long. Those of you who have stuck around since the beginning know how much he has grown as person, from the manipulative selfish bastard to a respected and selfless leader. That's the kind of change I was anticipating and hoping for in his character.

I think the best scene of the episode was where James goes to Richard and completely disarms him with spectacular revelation. The look on Alpert's face from expecting yet another DHARMA yutz to genuine confusion and realization was priceless.

Juliet and James. Yeah, I can see that.

Miles finally accepted his role as loyal sidekick! It is yet to be seen how it is that he can talk to dead people.

By the chronology of the series, I think that Ben and his dad should be part of the DHARMA Initiative by now. Or maybe not, I'm not sure.
