"Okay so ..." The familiar Osakan detective is holding a portable EMF meter up to the walls of the mansion. "Energy readings are off the scale. I don't even know what half those lights mean ... and the K-2 meter is going nuts. Which means ..." Heiji sighs, ignoring the beeping of the K-2 meter as he reasons aloud. "Either the fall really messed up ( Read more... )

"It's option three, ahou. If you looks around, that would be obvious," Kazuha said. She didn't need anymore than one guess for which Hattori this was.

The ghost hunting equipment WAS a dead give away.

"What does it look like I'm doin'?" Heiji shot back immediately. "Can't a guy even--" He stopped. Blinked. Blinked again.

"Kazuha? The hell are you doin' in a multi-versal vortex?"

"I've been here for months, ahou," Kazuha said. "And I'm saying it'd be more obvious because you're not where you were before."

"Ahou yourself!" Heiji waved his case of ghost hunting equipment at her. "How often do I investigate places I've already been? If I'm grabbed just as I'm arriving at a place I've never been inside of, then of course its going to take me a moment to realise!"

"Ooo, hey! It's that guy I was for a week!" So said the mutant talking lion.

"Leormon...we should really establish rules for when you spot someone interesting," said a Conan. Looking to be about ten.

The voices -- one new, one he recognises -- grab Heiji's attention and he looks up. Conan's a lot older than he remembers ... and what's with the over-sized cat?

"Conan-kun? You get a growth spurt or is this one of those alternate universe things?"

"Alterna-" Conan paused and blinked. Then he looked over Heiji. "Ah, that's why you're calling me Conan. You're from HIS world."

"You're an alternate Conan then? Or just someone who looks a lot like him?" Heiji delivered these questions with the same sort of enthusiasm usually reserved for cases and arguing with Kazuha.

This Kaito is at the moment choosing to be invisible. And is right now laughing is dead behind off, thanks. He's heard of that Hattori, because he's met that Hattori's Kazuha.

And is HIGHLY amused.

Heiji's discounting the way his K-2 meter has gone off the scale as due to the mansion's inherent atmosphere and has turned it off as he looks around the place.

Aaand, that's set him off again. Only now he's taken to flitting about the place like the (literal) phantom he is.

The mansion's got a lot to attract any detective's attention, and Heiji's busy sizing up the contents of the bookcases, the relative age of the furnishings and the traces left on them by the mansion's inhabitants. Definitely not the place he came to investigate ...

"Hattori-kun?"

Ran has to admit she's intrigued by all the strange-looking equipment. It almost looks like something a bomb squad would use, but not quite. And even if it was, why would Hattori have it? He seems pretty young to be on the squad, no matter what kind of world he's from.

And the Hattoris she's seen here -- or even heard of being here -- are few and far between, so she can hardly pass up the chance to address her friend. The Kazuhas here will probably be happy to see him, at the very least.

She approaches with her hands clasped behind her back, dressed in a casual sweater and skirt, looking nothing but curious.

"What are you doing?"

"Ah--Mouri-san! Hi ...!" Hattori freezes. He's not got time to hide his equipment -- and if there is one person he doesn't want to bring up the subject of ghosts with it is Mouri. "Fancy meeting you in this multi-versal vortex ... You been on vacation or something?" She looked -- a lot more relaxed than the Mouri he remembered.

'Mouri-san'? Not 'neesan'?

"I don't know if this place really counts as a vacation," she said wryly, smiling at him. "Did you just get here? You don't seem that surprised by the place..."

Is she smiling? Hattori stares, realising only belatedly that Ran asked him a question. "Yeah, new arrival. Just been here long enough for Kazuha t' give me the run-down an' Kudou t' introduce himself--"

Oh crap.

Kazuha HAD been thinking on how best to deal with Heiji so he didn't bother the ghosts. Of course she'd always support Heiji in the end, but he didn't know ghosts. SHE knew ghosts, whether she wanted too or not.

It was just better...if he didn't get too deeply involved.

Of course, after all this pondering, she'd missed the meal hour and decided to take in a late dinner in the dining hall.

Kazuha would have only the briefest warning of an approaching spiritual presence before Hattori flung open the dining room door, scanning the room for her apparently. "Kazuha!"

Kazuha looked up at the presence, only to have Heiji to enter seconds later. He looked...energetic. Why was that? "Heiji?"

"This the dining hall? Cool." Hattori snagged a plate, filling it from the buffet table as he talked. "Been looking all over for you. You won't believe some of the stuff I've heard -- is that okonomiyaki? Bet you've they've made it wrong. No one makes okonomiyaki right out of Osaka."
