"Okay so ..." The familiar Osakan detective is holding a portable EMF meter up to the walls of the mansion. "Energy readings are off the scale. I don't even know what half those lights mean ... and the K-2 meter is going nuts. Which means ..." Heiji sighs, ignoring the beeping of the K-2 meter as he reasons aloud. "Either the fall really messed up ( Read more... )

Kazuha HAD been thinking on how best to deal with Heiji so he didn't bother the ghosts. Of course she'd always support Heiji in the end, but he didn't know ghosts. SHE knew ghosts, whether she wanted too or not.

It was just better...if he didn't get too deeply involved.

Of course, after all this pondering, she'd missed the meal hour and decided to take in a late dinner in the dining hall.

Kazuha would have only the briefest warning of an approaching spiritual presence before Hattori flung open the dining room door, scanning the room for her apparently. "Kazuha!"

Kazuha looked up at the presence, only to have Heiji to enter seconds later. He looked...energetic. Why was that? "Heiji?"

"This the dining hall? Cool." Hattori snagged a plate, filling it from the buffet table as he talked. "Been looking all over for you. You won't believe some of the stuff I've heard -- is that okonomiyaki? Bet you've they've made it wrong. No one makes okonomiyaki right out of Osaka."

"Yeah. Their okonomiyaki isn't really worth it," Kazuha said, relaxing a bit. Okay, he was just excited. She'd just let him talk and get the rest of her food.

"Everyone always puts too much sauce on everything. How are you supposed to taste the food if you keep drownin' it?" Heiji shunned the okonomiyaki, but helped himself to some of the takoyaki, filling his plate with a mix of yakisoba and grilled fish. He joined Kazuha at the table. "Pity I didn't know I was gonna end up here. Could've brought omiyage."

"Exactly! It's like no one knows how to properly season," Kazuha said with a sigh. "It's not that hard."

She shrugged. "I'm sure no one will hold it against you, seeing as we all got taken without warning," she said before starting to eat with the usual phrase.

"Itadakimasu." Hattori followed Kazuha, digging into his meal with alarcity. "They just need to eat proper Osakan food. Then they'd get what they're missin'. An' speaking of missin', how long exactly you been seein' Kudou?"

Kazuha choked on the mouthful of food. She started to cough, eventually forced to take several gulps of water to get the food to stay down. "W-what, are you talking about?!"

"Had a close encounter," Hattori said smugly. "With a ghost that didn't mind talkin' to me."

Kazuha paled. Quite a bit. "That...that is..."

Damn it. Who told him? Who had she talked with...?

Damn it, Kuroba.

"W-what do you mean? I...why would I talk with Kudo? How?"

"Weird," Hattori said flatly. "That was exactly what I was gonna ask you."

"I...of course I can't...I mean...there's just no way...." Kazuha said, shifting nervously.

"Don't remember? Then I guess I'll have to drop by the second floor, see if Kudou knows anythin' about it."
