I like the idea of Cole, of this super-trained human that's suddenly new to the monster world and on a revenge quest, brings back to the Old West feel we had in season 1.
As for young Dean in the opening, that's CGI, they did that for Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellan when they had to de-age them for a flashback in X-men 3.
I agree, it's both interesting and refreshing. And I just noticed I have a typo on the post, I meant to say it's not that he's not an interesting character! I I need a re-watch to arrange my thoughts, but I think there's some parallels between him and Dean that makes me very curious about his future. At some point or another, probably when Dean's back to being Dean, he's bound to discover the truth about what really happened that night. Would it make him become a hunter to revenge the real person (creature) responsible for his father's death? Maybe even team up with Sam and Dean? And on the other hand, assuming his father was possessed by a demon it opens a can of warms in regards to the boy's actions and the amount of innocents serving as meat suits who died by their hands.
Oh yes, I remember that scene in X-Men. You're right. It wasn't perfect, a little disturbing even, but I like it. Wish they'd skip the close up, it would look much more believable without it.
Oh yeah, duh, it didn't even occur to me that Dean might have been at the murder scene but hadn't actually killed Cole's dad, that the real killer escaped (time to dig up John's journal)
Interesting point. Especially if he's been on that hunt alone and there's nothing in John's journal (could happen, considering Sam was in Stanford and Dean said he hunted alone before). I can't stop thinking about Dean's reaction to Cole when he said it. Regular Dean would be mortified and try to explain himself.
Oooh yeah that's right, Dean did go off on his own back then, so it could be undocumented. As for his reaction, it shows how far Dean has come in his personal body count, excerpt going darkside means he no longer harbors regret.
