So the conference was okay.  It wasn't as fun or relaxing as I had hoped it would be, but at least I made some good contacts and talked shop with people from other labs.  The people from Michigan remembered me and, this time, were quite friendly to me.  I also heard that the girl I interned with, the one who got the job I wanted (at the time; one of the most fortunate events in my life was not getting that job) turned out to be kind of a fuck-up, people think she's a compulsive liar, and no one at the MSP respects her.  I'm a bit amused about that but mostly I'm just glad that the MSP people respect me.

Thursday night was the MAFS gala.  It had a 40's film noir theme so I just wore the same black dress I wore at the last MAFS.  A lot of other people dressed up, actually rented costumes from a shop.  Eventually I'll post some photos.  And there was a ballroom dancing couple there to teach us basic swing styles.  Despite being completely uncoordinated and clumsy, I tried my damndest and really liked it.  I'd kinda like to learn more.

Yesterday I went to the Feast of the Hunter's Moon in Tippecanoe county with Dan.  It was a lot like the Michigan Renaissance Festival, but set in early 18th-century America instead of generic medieval Europe.  There were a lot of vendors with very rustic-looking things to sell, as well as food stands like the Ren Fest.  The time period wasn't really my thing (and rustic does not fit my decor), but it was still a lot of fun and it makes me want to check out some other festivals that are going on around here this fall.

Now I'm back into the routine.  Work is probably going to get intense in the coming months, I have to start planning my pumpkin party (4th Annual!), and I really have to get going on the floors.  Dad's coming down to Indy over Columbus Day weekend to help me lay them, but before then I have to clear out all the furniture, rip up the carpet, clean the concrete, get supplies, and pick up the 33 cartons of hardwood from the store.  All by myself... though I can probably get the boys to help with some of the heavy lifting.

it's a dirty job
