My mother in law (Jen's adopted mom) is getting married to her long-time boyfriend.
They've been together longer than Jen and I (and we'll be together for 8 years this November), even before she was divorced from her husband.
This relationship started about a year before I met Jennifer (roughly 1998). They were 'just friends' but Jennifer was getting calls at work at her dad's broker office and the caller would ask "are you growing up to be a good slut like your mom?"
So it seems that everyone in town knew what was going on, doesn't take a rocket scientist.
About six months into our relationship, her mother and father divorced. Her dad moved out and the boyfriend started staying over more and more, almost to point that he should have moved in. Jen had enough and we got a place of our own.
So why are they now marrying? Let me continue.
Apparently, the b/f is on disability (with an injured back). However he is perfectly capable of moving amps and speakers around for the DJ business. Once the two of them sat down, they told us that it would cost them too much money to get married: for her alimony from her ex-husband and from him in his disability check. So the reason they didn't get married was the money.
Fast forward two years. Jen's grandfather has died and left her mother a hefty sum of money (some of which we are sure that he left to Jen and her brother but since her mother is executor of the estate we won't see it until she dies, that is if she leaves any). Now, apparently they are financially set to get married.
But wait there's more!
They're not really spending money on their wedding. They're having it at the Elk's Lodge because since they're members, renting a room costs next to nothing. The dinner is pot luck not catered. The bride bought her dress from a thrift shop. The bridesmaids were charged with finding a black dress for the wedding and the groomsmen black suits.
That's it. That's the extent of their planning and payment for their wedding (both their second).
Its nice to know Love overcomes Money.
Its a good thing Jen isn't genetically linked to this 'people.'
