I still get email alerts from the local news station. This is kind of cool and relevant because, obviously, I still have a lot of family and friends back in the Old Pueblo. Yesterday, I got this:
"-------------------------------------------------------------
Bomb Squad Deployed-
--------------------------------------------------------------
The Tucson Police bomb squad is at the Wells Fargo Bank near Speedway and-
Warren . A man outside the bank may have an explosive device. -
The westbound lanes of Speedway are closed and we're told police have-
deployed a robot to investigate the situation. For now you are urged to-
avoid the area of Speedway and Warren . That's across the street from the-
University of Arizona near Campbell . -
KOLD News 13 will have a crew on the scene and will have more information-
as it becomes available.-
Another bizarre way of keeping a taste of home is to listen to the local police scanner on-line. It is bizarre, but I do hear the familiar accents and places. I am kicking myself because yesterday, during the deployment of the bomb squad, would have been the perfect time to listen, but I didn't think of it until later.
