Back in September I started slushing for Clarkesworld. (I'm even listed on their
staff page and everything.) I doubt I'll talk about it much. IMO, the days of the celebrity slush reader can't die fast enough.
Ultimately, my take on reading slush is that it's the equivalent of being a human pool-filter.
That said, I am enjoying it.

Things I'd Like To See Less of in Short Fiction (my list is up to 15 now...), but I don't know how useful that would be. For one thing it'd be an utterly subjective list. You're just as likely to be read by another slush reader as you are to be read by me so fixing your game to what I like/dislike might not be too helpful, and besides most of the folks reading this don't make the mistakes I complain about the most.
All that said, I'll tell you this: all it takes is one bad snowstorm for the slush to get overwhelmed with carnivorous ghost-reindeer stories.
