Here's to the plain Janes among us. To us girls who aren't exotic enough. Aren't preppy enough. Aren't sophisticated enough. Aren't exciting enough. Aren't sexy enough. Aren't hot enough. Aren't spicy enough. Aren't Wild enough. To the vanilla girls in a world of cherry and grape and chocolate and spicy jabenero.
Vanilla girls are under-rated.
But what is a Vanilla girl?
A Vanilla girl is sweet, but not too sweet.
A Vanilla girl not afraid to let her black spots show. She embraces them as part of who she is.
A vanilla girl doesn't have a strong flavor, she's no wild cherry or exotic papya, but she doesn't leave a sickly sour or sweet taste in your mouth after she's gone.
A vanilla girl isn't afraid to try new things, but she prefers old favorites.
A vanilla girl is pure. She's not jealous of a blushing strawberry or a crimson parfait. She holds onto her values, but doesn't judge them either. After all, they were once vanilla like her, just a little misguided.
A vanilla girl knows that someday someone will make her melt. She just has to wait for the right one at the right time. Until then she's perfectly content to keep it cool.
A vanilla girl goes with everything, on every occasion. She can be spunky or elegant or comfy, depending on what the other ingredients are on the occasion.
A vanilla girl is always smooth. She doesn't have any rough edges and works at refining herself daily.
A vanilla girl is soothing, she doesn't beg for attention, she gets it because she's a comfort. Something you reach for when you need a hug or a pat on the back.
A vanilla girl is dreamy. She's not afraid of ideals. She embraces them, then tries to achieve them.
A vanilla girl is strong. She's stood the test of time and endured. She knows when to bend and when to stand rigid.
A vanilla girl is consistant. She doesn't play games and she's dependable.
A vanilla girl is who men look for when the cherrys and peaches leave them behind. When the apples stop looking so appealing, a vanilla girl will still be there, calmly, cooly, collectedly standing by your side.
Vanilla girls are mothers, daughters, sisters, nieces, aunts, working women, students, girlfriends, fiances, stay-at-home-moms, teachers, lawyers, dentists, doctors, friends, family.
How many vanilla girls do you know? Thank them for being who they are in a world where nice guys finish last and vanilla girls don't even get off the blocks. Thank them for not being afraid to stand for what they believe. Thank them for staying true to themselves. Thank them for being open minded and sensitive to others. And to the vanilla girls who are reading this, thank you for being you. You know who you are.
