9. Pairings - For each of the fandoms from day two, what are your three favourite pairings to write?

Three?! This is insane. The only thing I can even come up with that HAS three romantic pairings, off the bat, is "Pride and Prejudice". ;P But I'll talk about my favorite friendship pairings, and if I've written any romantic pairings (except James/ ( Read more... )

Whoops. I should always remember never to assume that people know Red Dwarf outside of the UK. (I mean, they do, but assuming is unwise.) Holly is the ship's computer into the 1990s SF sitcom Red Dwarf ... and probably the only computer to have a sex change twice. Has an IQ of 6000. Or 6, depending. I would highly recommend RD, but it's one of those shows that are so odd, it's hard to know who would like it and who wouldn't. Personally, I always veer on the side of 'if you have a sense of humour and like any SF shows', yes. It does send up Star Trek quite a bit, but funnily enough probably has the most real science I've seen in an SF show. Probably because real science theories are too crazy to work in something that's serious? I dunno. ;-D

The first episode is called the End, and nearly everybody dies. Which really tells you most of what you need to know. It is a show about the last man alive, a creature evolved from a cat, a hologram an android, and a computer. There is also a v big ship, lots of cute scutters and Starbug. And probably choosing an episode with Kryten in is better to start with than S1 and 2. Although ep 1 is a reasonable place to begin. And stop after S7, mainly. Um. It is just like that?

Here, gratuitous RD quotes, because they always make a day better, and the internet has them just sitting there:

Holly: And the moral of the story: appreciate what you've got, because basically, I'm fantastic!

Holly: I just don't know where we are. There's no two ways about it: I flamingoed up!
Rimmer: What do you mean?
Holly: It's like a cock-up, only much much bigger.

Holly: Well, the thing about a black hole - its main distinguishing feature - is it's black. And the thing about space, the colour of space, your basic space colour, is black. So how are you supposed to see them?
