Sometimes the Internet comes up with some truly awesome stuff.
Case in point:
Old Spice/Beowulf crossover fic. No, really. This is from last Yuletide. A snippet:
'He spoke these words: / "Look upon me.
Now upon yourselves. / Again upon me.
You are not me."'

The Old Spice guy was quite busy this Yuletide, and not being familiar with him I just ignored stuff, chasing all the other shiny stuff, but that was great. Yuletide is like some fantastic public service. Got a fandom you think will have no fic? Wait, there's one and it's awesome, cos it's Yuletide.
(Sorry. They were doing the fandom pimping post over there already, so I'm getting excited. Even if I end up not being able to do it - and I think/hope I can - it's fun waiting to see what comes of it anyway. And reading Dear Yuletide letters.)

(At least I now know I can write 1000 words of fic to a deadline, although it took two months. And I can write to a prompt. So I'm getting closer! But it's still a long way to writing specifically A Fic This Person Will Like; I totally turn into a cliché machine as soon as I try to think about whether anyone else will like my story. *wry face*)

Actually, I only managed to do Yuletide last year (and it is my current goal at the mo to do it again), the awesome thing about Yuletide is that you can kind of take part vicariously - seeing which fandoms are up there, reading Dear Yuletide letters, watching stories get posted in your favourite obscure fandoms, going through the list of NYR prompts and making unrealistic vows to write about 100... And those times when you get a new fandom and sigh because there will be no fic... and then there is, because of Yuletide, and it's awesome. Or am I just sad?
