I realized today that there is a reason I no longer am in grade school, because I don't like waking up at 6am every morning. It feels especially early because, on top of the six hour time-difference for me, it does not get light here until 8:30/8:45am!!! That is well after I have gotten to work and begun the first lesson of the day. Fortunatley the windows in the room are those cool mirror ones so they reflect the classroom until it is light out and the sun (or foggy gloom) shines through and you can see outside. Whoever invented those was a genious.
Plus side: The kids are adorable, all thirteen of them. Three of them have Dad's in Iraq, and all of them are living on this Military base. They come from U.S. most recently, but many of them were born in other parts of the world (Japan, Egypt, Ireland, South Africa...) and are now here in Germany. But they are just like all kids. I have already been invited to play jump-rope at recess, sit with two girls at lunch, and even to have a "play-date" on a weekend!
Tomorrow I meet the High Schoolers. Let's hope they're as excited to see me as the 3rd graders were...
