*waves* Hey there! Just watched the special late and oh god, I'm also very confused and mixed-feelings-ish. There are things I just DON'T GET and I don't know if it's me being stupid or they just aren't explained ;)
End of Time reference: was thinking exactly along the same lines, thank you! Ten CERTAINLY didn't seem so keen on having them back at that point and it was the last of him. If enough bits of the encounter remained in his subconscious to prompt "I don't wanna go" (loved the explanation for that, though :D), how come his opinion was so opposite there? You're also quite right about the Daleks that HAD to remain on Gallifrey. Well-I suppose they were only a small part of the fleet so the Time Lords were good enough to wipe at least those out. Damn, let's leave them a job to do. Still…
Classic Doctors: I also have NO CLUE how they apparently all got involved, INCLUDING Capaldi, but I had a legit gasp-out-loud, hands-flies-to-chest moment when I saw his eyes so that was worth it. XD Also didn't understand where the Hurt regeneration was coming from, and didn't understand what Tom Baker was doing there. XD is it me being really, really SLOW? I hugely appreciate the effort of including all the Classics (the opening and closing credits! Pictures of past companions! ♥♥♥) but they seemed to manage that by throwing sense out of the window…?
Basically, my reaction to the whole episode can be summed up by: as a celebratory event and a homage to what Who has been for the past 50 years, it's lovely. As an episode that is set within the ensemble of the show and has to stand strong plot-wise and make sense… I'm very confused. (It also made me even more confused about the finale, lol. I expected the two episodes to be linked more directly for some reason, mostly because of John Hurt. So the Doctor's big secret… wasn't John Hurt? But Trenzalore? And John Hurt has nothing to do with the Silence wanting to keep the Doctor from opening the grave, so they REALLY just wanted to prevent the GI entering the timestream? Not to mention Clara is utterly fine and untraumatized after the whole timestream business. Did love the fact that she was carrying on with her life without the Doctor and doing her own thing-a teacher, just look at that! I loved Clara there but there was a slight all-knowing, super-epic-do-no-wrong edge to her character that didn't feel like it'd been there before, thank god the spirit from both the character and Jenna's performance carried it. You mentioned the snap of the fingers! I frowned at that too. Says enough.)
Besides, I loved your thoughts, the quotes you picked and questions you pointed out, it was very interesting reading all of this while very fresh from the episode :)
Oh I think there's plenty that just isn't that well explained.
Yeah, really hope they explain this at some point.
Yes really appreciated all of the nods to classic Doctors, even though I'm not that far into my classic Who watch. It's what an anniversary special should do. The Tom Baker thing...I think it was deliberately vague. Some people think he was supposed to be an older Four somehow, others think he was just a character played by Tom Baker, which is what I think.
Yeah, plot wise, not the strongest episode, but apparently stronger than some other anniversary episodes. I think the Hurt Doctor was supposed to be the huge secret. I am not sure what the Silence wanted, but hopefully that will be addressed in the Christmas special. I do wonder how long was supposed to have elapsed between the two episodes, but I guess we'll never know, just like we'll never know how the Zygon thing resolved.
Thanks! Glad someone enjoyed. Just had to discuss with someone.
Re: classics: Have you seen Adventure of Space and Time? :) Yeah, explanations were done fast, it was all so full… The tribute was fantastic, indeed! :D And from what I could hear Four is a rather cryptic Doctor, so that would be fitting. ;) Silence will fall at Christmas… oh dear, I can't wait :D (And yes! The Zygons. Apparently they made a cool treaty, like with the Silurians except this one worked out. Idk. It just blurred straight into the background.) And it was very nice seeing your thoughts! :)
Yes, really enjoyed An Adventure in Space and Time. I wasn't sure I would since I haven't seen that much classic Who.
So much stuff in such a short time. This has a lot of re-watch potential.
Interesting. Haven't gotten to Four yet. Still stalled in the middle of my selected Two serial. Things have been busy for me lately with the holidays :P
Eeek! Looks like it's going to be a big deal. And they're going back to Tranzalore, so I guess we'll see if Silence Falls or not.
Good for you! :D All the Hartnell feels. There certainly is!!! I really should rewatch the special to come to terms with some parts and see them with a cooler, more distant eye but atm I'm too addicted to classic!Who for that ;) Ah, I understand. I stayed halfway through an episode for nearly two months lately, lol ;) Making better progress now though, and I should reach Two before the end of the year :D Ahhh, the Silence :D God, I'm so hyped about this. *dismissive hand gesture* ♥
