So....
spoilers ahead!
Well. Freaking Gallifrey still out there somewhere. Moffat you really swing for the fences don't you? I've got mixed feelings on this. On the one hand, Eleven figured out how to fix things in a way that didn't totally re-do the last 427 years and also so he didn't have to kill everyone on Gallifrey. On the other hand, weren't the Gallifreyans so horrible that they all had to be killed again in The End of Time? Or are Rassillon and all of the other really bad Gallifreyans dead now? If they were really still out there all of this time, a whole planet of geniuses, wouldn't they have shown their faces again by now? I know they needed something big for the Fiftieth, but this seems like a huge piece of retcon.
So, aside from that, I was inspired to do some reactions during the encore watch of the episode.
And here... we.... go....
The doors close for Clara with a snap of her fingers now? Does the Tardis suddenly like her? Intriguing. Also, did she have the motorcycle before, or did she get that after the foray with the Spoonheads in London?
Kate Stewart! And a girl wearing a Four scarf :)
"Would it have killed you to knock?" LOL.
Well, that's all very dramatic.
The first time I saw this, I thought they were going to jump into the painting. Guess they kind of did that later. Also not sure why Elizabeth sent that note to him....
These flash backs were informative, but kind of distracting. Took me a bit to get used to them. This first one would have looked fantastic in the theater, but since I really don't think I can do 3D without getting sick, sadly not an option for me.
So, were there no Daleks on Gallifrey when they moved the planet? I'm seeing all kinds of logistical issues with this now. Also, what was the explanation for why neither of them remember doing this before? Because this is always what happened. He never really killed everyone. My brain hurts a bit.
So if this isn't the High Council, what is this? The War Room? Is the High Council where Rassillon and other really horrible idea people were?
I wonder what planet this is supposed to be. The first time I saw this I wondered if Rose was in the bag. And strangely enough, I was actually kind of right.
"Why is there never a big red button?" So he's been fascinated with them for a while ;)
Took you long enough to figure that out Doctor. Very interesting development. I was wondering how they were going to get around having Rose in this. And I love what Billie did with this role. An impish, occasionally unsettling guiding light. So no Rose/Ten interaction, but they're both in this and this preserves the ending they had before which was kind of great for the shippers. It's not my ship, but I still respect theirs.
"If you kill them all, then that's the consequence. You live."
Oh, and she's the ghost of Christmas future too.
A fez! "Ok, I wasn't expecting that."
How did they know what the orders were if the Doctor hadn't opened them yet?
Ah, I was wondering what this phone call was the first time.
So....he was there long enough for them to paint a portrait of him? And didn't she hate him in The Shakespeare Code? Why does she suddenly love him, or was him marrying her and leaving her supposed to be why she hates him later? Is this retcon too?
Not really seeing why Ten sees the appeal in Elizabeth. Didn't like her much.
Does the Zygon have really bad eye sight? Why did it run right by them?
OMG the thing with the rabbit!
It's the fez again!
"Oi, you. Are you sciency?"
"Someday, you could just walk past a fez." "Never going to happen." *snort* So Clara's experienced Eleven's fascinations with fezes as well :) In Bells of St. John, right?
It's the Time of Angels music. Thought we were going to get Weeping Angels for a minute.
So how does he remember this part with the fez but not the HUGE part about Gallifrey?
And the thing with the screwdrivers again. Always Eleven with the flourish. "Compensating?" "For what?" "Regeneration. It's a lottery." LOL.
These kisses don't look remotely fun.
So what's this file she's asking for?
So he remembers the fez, but not any of the rest of it? Guess that would kind of ruin the special, but they better have an explanation for this.
OMG the look on their faces when the Hurt Doctor asks if Ten and Eleven are the Doctor's companions! "Am I having a mid life crisis?"
"They're screwdrivers. What are you going to do - assemble a cabinet on them?"
"Are you capable of speaking without your hands flapping about?" "Yes. No, probably not."
"Timey Wimey?" "Honestly I don't know where he gets it from" *snort*
Sand shoes and granddad! And chin-y. Love it.
Scarf girl isn't quite as smart as she should be. She's supposed to reveal that she knows about the bad guy's plan *after* they escape the danger. But at least she escapes.
Does Kate not get her memory wiped then? Interesting that the companions are screened for security clearances.
Yay Clara and quick thinking! I was wondering what that bit was from the preview.
I love that the door wasn't even locked. And none of them tried it. Honestly.
Oh good. Kate's not dead.
If she's the real Elizabeth how the frak does she know all about the history of the Zygons? Oh - so if the cubes put the Zygons in the paintings, and they used the cubes on Gallifrey, are is Gallifrey stuck in a painting (or something else) somewhere in suspended animation? Or are the people on the planet still living their lives inside the painting, since presumably the Zygons needed something to prompt them to break out of the paintings?
So the Doctor's been married before then. He looks decidedly unhappy about this.
Are those River's shoes? I think those are River's shoes! So glad a little part of her made it into the special somehow.
Doubles! And scarf girl is apparently called Osgood?
So is the only phone in the Tardis now the one on the outside of the Tardis? Was the one inside wiped out with the new desktop?
Dangerous painting to be in. Love the onwards music!
Oh the two Doctors in sync is so cool!
Pics of the old companions. Nice touch.
Clara is quite perceptive.
I was really, really afraid they were going to change way too much with this. "I changed my mind."
Parallel pocket universe. Frozen in a single moment.
So how did he talk the other Doctors into this? Not that it wasn't fabulous to see them involved.
Twelve! Had been hoping to see more of him.
"At worse we failed doing the right thing."
How did the painting get there?
He is the Doctor again. that's great. But god help me, if they renumber the Doctors I am going to be completely pissed.
And there's the regeneration some had predicted, but had been hoping to see Eccleston. *sigh*
So will Eleven remember this but not the Hurt Doctor or Ten?
And Tom Baker! Awesome :) "Perhaps I was you of course"
Love the shot of all of the Doctors at the end. Wish Eccleston had been in the Fiftieth, but guess it was not to be.
And that's it. What did everyone else think?
