back again?

So yeah, I canceled the spartan stub journal. After a bit of it I decided the Spartan Race was way too cult-like for me. Much like Cross-fit. The cultist camps each believe that their way is the ONLY way, the BEST way, to get in shape ever. I'm not down with elitism so I quit that idea. I kept running though, until I stupidly hurt my foot running/hiking barefoot through the woods while camping in August. Twisted my foot violently on a root hidden in the tall grass. I think I broke a metatarsal bone, or at least fractured it, because every time I ran after thinking it was healed up, it would swell up and hurt really badly again for a week or so. Finally my cousins came to visit me in October and I ran 2.5 miles barefoot on the road with one of them and that totally did in my foot. I decided to not run for at least two months after that, to allow my foot to truly heal. And now it is winter and I can't run barefoot and I have gotten all lazy and fat. I gained back about 20 of the 30 pounds I had lost last winter/spring, and have NO energy.

So now here it is 2013. I decided to go back on the diet I was doing last year, which was basically cooked vegetarian, with no refined sugar and fairly low fat most days. This time I am going to try a course of raw veganisim though, just to see how it makes me feel. Last year being vegetarian (with eggs and cheese) I had boundless energy and the weight was dropping like flies. (why do flies drop, anyway?) I've gone vegetarian for the first week of this year so far, but as I started out getting what I suspect to be strep throat the Friday before New Years, it's taken awhile to get to feeling better. Plus I still had some cheese and stuff in the house that I was not going to just toss out. And today I ate a frozen pizza. ALL of it. And it was good!

Anyway, in the interest of my health I want to do a 30-day course of a strict, low-fat, raw vegan diet and see how I feel at the end of the 30 days. Basically, I'll only eat fruit and raw veg like salads. A thing I recently discovered that will get me enough calories in a day to actually live like this is frozen banana and date smoothies. That stuff is BETTER than ice cream and a blender full (4 frozen bananas, 20 dates, a cup of strawberries, and enough water to make it smooth like ice cream) is about 700 calories. SO yum!

I want the energy I had last year. I want to get out of bed in the morning feeling ready to hit the world running rather than staggering to the computer to while away the morning until I go to my (nearly non-existent) work. I want my skin to be smooth and clear, and I want my hair to be soft and not feel like broom straws anymore.

So. I'll let you know how it goes.

p.s. Gus is super cute and has been very good lately! :)
