the leaves aren't the only ones who fell

Last Sunday we were decorating for Halloween when our electricity went off in half the house, including the kitchen. The heat went off too, just when we were experiencing our coldest days this fall. It was getting down to -5 (Celsius) at night and about +4 during the day.

I couldn't cook lunch so I ordered delivery from A&W. I got a hamburger and fries for myself and chicken tenders for hubby who can't get his mouth around a burger anymore.

I'll enclose a photo so you can see. We sat on those wooden chairs on the porch, which is very small and only about 2 steps high. I sat on the empty one and my husband removed the ghoul and sat in his seat.

When the food came I went and got a ceramic bowl to put my fries in because I wanted to pour gravy all over them.

Before I took one bite I decided to shift my chair over a bit. That was a big mistake. It slipped off the top of the porch and fell with me in it down onto the pavement. The left corner of my head hit the concrete and bounced up again. (Yes, my head is square. Call me Spongebob.) I was worried that I'd given myself a concussion. I cannot afford to land in hospital when my husband needs full-time care because of his dementia.

I lay on the pavement for a few minutes to asses my injuries. Luckily, my head got the worst of it because I remained in the chair, which protected me somewhat, although my left hip hurt for a long time afterwards and my left arm felt like it had suffered a bad vaccination.

My husband rushed over, very solicitous, and helped me up. He told me he didn't want anything to happen to me because then what would he do? My thoughts exactly.

Luckily I was okay. I had called a furnace guy, an electrician and someone to take some extra trash to the dump for us. All three guys showed up at separate times. I was rushing all over the place and was in no pain the entire time.

That night when I went to bed was the worst, though. I couldn't sleep on my left side thanks to the arm and hip. Oddly, my head didn't hurt for two days, but after that I could feel a bump on that left corner that was sore and still is.

On the good side, we did get the electricity and heat back on, and I got my garage all cleared out.

And of course the weather since then has gone up to about +10 during the day and remains above freezing at night.
