School is too close.
Luckily, I've gotten a lot done in the past few days. And knowing me, you'll know that I already have a plan to finish everything I need to before school starts. Can I just say that having no rehearsal until thursday this week is like heaven? It gives me time to not only shower, eat and relax after work, but also to read John Adams, work on ST, learn my lines (eep! supposed to be memorized) and, oh yeah, sleep.
What have I been up to recently, you ask? Hmmm, let's see...
Hmmm...I feel like not much happened Thursday, but maybe I'm wrong. Oh yes, that was when Sara and Virginia came over to write ST (sound familiar?), and then we had a particularly amusing Fantasticks rehearsal, which basically consisted of Tim making jokes about stuck up actors ("where's my Evian?"), awkward scenes, giant wooden penises, and Miriam's taste in guys ("OMG, there's this incoming freshman who looks like he's four and he's SO HOT!!"). Wow, that was one sentence. I rule. Anyway, I'm pretty sure we accomplished very little, actually, but 'twas fun. And everything is so much more laid back because it's a small cast and it's summer.
On Friday, I got together with Laura, Sara, Virginia, Hazel, Marie, Will, and Emma H. to film a fake episode of the real world. I won't go into too much detail because a few people have already posted about it, I'm lazy, and you'll probably be seeing it soon. But it was awesome. Laura was Angela, the timid, good girl (read: middle school Laura); Virginia was Mary-Beth, the drunk, southern babtist (which PWNED); Hazel was Rosie, the slut, though she was a little too Hazel-ish to be a sorority slut so not quite the same kind of stereotype; Sara was Aaron, the homophobic frat guy (cuz we don't actually know any of those); Marie was Tonii, who was Marie, but a lesbian (and she was DAMN good at it); Will was Ju-wan, the manwhore, who turned into the bicurious manwhore (which he was also suspiciously good at); I was Chris, the emo kid (which was actually very fun because I didn't have to do anything and I got to storm off angrily and bitch people out for no reason; and Emma H. was Antonio, our replacement manwhore after Will got arrested (had to leave).
We filmed the interviews, where people improved about their characters, and made them read the little intro monologue. We also came up with ideas for a few different relationship-establishing and bad teen angst scenes, which were followed by morning-after scenes. Somehow, everyone ended up fake drunk by the end; it was pretty funny. And Virginia/Marie OTP! Ahem, anyway...
I think the high points were definately: me reading Laura emo poetry, which led to a makeout session, Will hitting on EVERYONE (seriously, EVERYONE), and Marie and Virginia's hookup and morning after scene ("See, migrain. I got one of those.").
People slowly began to disappear until it was just me, Hazel, Sara, Virginia, and Emma. We watched the footage (cuz we're cool like that) and ate dinner. Laura came back after her dinner and Hazel made us all go to Brigham's where we sketched out Hazel's friend from teh barn (you'd think barn friends would be used to Hazel by now, wouldn't you?). I called Yasmin and made Laura leave a message about how she would be a good lesbian. It was fun. Poor Sam.
We made a failed attempt to write some Space Toaster, and then Sara, Virginia, and Hazel had to leave at 10:30.
Laura and I headed over to Will's then for the last few hours of his black-and-white movie marathon. We saw most of "Ed Wood", which was actually very good, if a little (okay, a lot) weird. And it had Drusilla, and she PWNED (JULIET!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!). I'm in love with her. Oh, speaking of which, you know how married couples have lists of like 5 of so celebrities they can do if they ever have the chance, without their spouse getting mad? Well, even though Kayleigh and I have a polygamous marriage, this is my list:
1. Eliza Dushku
2. Julie Benz
3. Juliet Landau
4. Bernadette Peters
5. Idina Menzel
6. Kristen Bell
That's just off the top of my head. But Idina DEFINATELY after this weekend.
Anyway. Movie was good. Got to see Tim, Miriam, Will (cuz I NEVER see them), and Jay, which was fun. We left around 12:30, which wasn't that late, but I was DEAD from lack of sleep, so I came home and crashed.
Saturday, I slept in a lot, and caught up a bit on sleep. Then, around 2, I headed to Crane Beach with Laura, Rita, and Virginia. Laura and I belted showtunes in the car, scaring the other two. It was a really nice day though, and I'm glad I got to the beach one last time before September. We ate lime chips (probably more than we should have), walked around, took pictures, talked, swam (like hardcore swimming) in teh freezing New England ocean, and made sand castles with only our BARE HANDS.
Beach Pictures (ALL) They came out strangely small for some reason, I dunno. I have the full-size ginormous ones on my computer though from my digital camera if you want them for graphics or whatever. I intend to make icons. Because I can. And because they're already cropped as such, mostly.
We came home around 6:30 so that Laura and I had time to get ready for....IDINA!!! I honestly don't know how to describe this. It was just that good. First of all, it was at the Regatta Bar in Boston, and our table was about 5 feet (not even?) from Idina. She was facing sort of away from us at an angle, but that's okay, because it gave us a good view of her ass. That woman is SERIOUSLY HOT. Anyway, music, right. Let's see...I have a songlist that I got from the guitarist, but I'm too lazy to look at it now, so I'll see what I can remember. She started with a pop/rock version of "Take Me or Leave Me," which was just the best thing ever. Then she sung "Penny," from one of her CDs, which was so beautiful, and, as it turned out hillarious, because of what happened (this is where I gush over live theatre). She went to do the final verse, and sung the wrong words. So the band vamped and she came back in the right way. It was really funny though because the verse was "Can't even tell a joke without puttin' my foot in my mouth," but she was like "...without putting my foot in my FUCKING MOUTH." It was weird how well the verse fit what had just happened. But she handled it really well and turned all those moments into comedy. She was talking after the song about how she loved the late show (it was at 10) because she didn't have to worry about someone's mom yelling at her for swearing.
My favorite thing about the concert was how diverse everything she sung was. She did a few covers (including "Like A Prayer" - Madonna), some showtunes jazzed up ("Defying Gravity" and "I'll Cover You"), a hebrew prayer about Devorah that was absolutely gorgeous ("If all Bat Mitzvahs sounded like that, I'd sit through a million of them"), and a medly of songs from her days as a wedding singer. That was probably the best one because she put on the front half of a slinky dress, pulled her hair in front of her face, and regressed back into the Long Island accent she had at 15. She sung pieces of different songs she used, interspersed with stories about what her job was like. It was really funny. She also spent a lot of time playing with the audience ("I don't feel like singing...I want to TALK"), and taking pictures and such. Okay, enough gushing. But seriously, it was sooo good. And damn it, why does she have to be married and famous and ahhhh.....I want to be her friend. She seems like the coolest person. Okay, I'm done. I swear.
Sunday. Resume party (I'm too lazy for accents--that's resume as in the kind you give at an audition or job interview)!!! Laura came over and we made up our theatrical resumes, divided into "Television," "Theatre," and "Education". We both had about the same amount of TV stuff, but she had more theatre than me, and I more education than her (cuz I stretched out all my classes at camp). It was really fun though and they look pretty professional. Though I want to get Ms. Law to look them over first, because I feel like there's still room for improvement. But there always is I suppose. Plus we still need headshots. (Which, by the way, Laura, my mom said she could next weekend whenever you're around. And while we're on the subject of next weekend, Kate might want to come to Rocky Horror if that's cool with you). Where was I? Right, resume party. Then we rooted through my music, made lists of good audition songs, sung things that needed to be sung ("I'll Never Tell," and a few others), and tried to write some music, which just turned into us both realizing we needed to work on our respective music alone first.
My dad called around 5:30 and was all, "Hey, drive on random highways you've never been on before to meet me and your cousins for dinner!" It was cool though, because I followed signs and made it and everything. We ended up going to a good thai place in Newton, where my dad pulled a Sara's family and turned it into the family dinner from hell. I was planning to order just a chicken satay appetizer with a side of rice and my dad was like "that won't be enough; get two orders of the appetizer," and so I said okay and got two. Well, the food comes and he's like "that's too much chicken; you're not going to eat all that. Why did you order so much?" It was aggrivating. But I did eat it all, and it was fine. It was actually not too bad though because I got to talk to my cousin about film and the independant study because she's into those sorts of things. Also, she apparently likes Tegan & Sara (we were talking about events in Boston because she's coming here for college, so I mentioned the concert), which is awesome. She's going to Wellesly (sp?), which is cool because it's a lot closer (they're from Florida), and she's probably going to come see Fantasticks. We talked a lot about colleges and stuff, and she said she just applied early decision because it was the only place she wanted to go. I had to stop myself from making any sort of comment about lesbianism. As far as I know, she isn't. But I never see these people, so who knows.
After that, I came home, packed, went over to my dad's, and went to bed.
Today, I was actually awake for the first time in awhile during work. Elaine made me the head counselor backstage for my cast (because Kate's doing lights), which made me happy, especially because she said "I don't think anyone else could handle it." I went out to lunch in Concord Center with work people at an awesome sandwich place that has couches and stuff upstairs. It was really fun. I was telling people stories about my friends and showing them the pictures on my phone (the ones of Will in the shirt, of Hazel looking hippie-ish, and of Laura). Kate waved to the Laura picture and was like "You should take a picture of me and have Laura wave to it!" I didn't get one of her, but I have one of Russell, Matt, and Erica. And I told Russell and Kate that Laura was coming to the show and that she wants to meet them.
I realized as I was trying to get my iPod to work for the drive home that I was parked in an illegal space outside the restaurant (oops), so I just put it on shuffle and pulled out, almost going the wrong way down a one-way street, until some guy pointed out that I couldn't go that way. Sometimes I hate driving. But it was all okay.
I got home, read about forty pages of John Adams (<200 more to go!), showered, unpacked, and got a bunch of other stuff done. Now I just have to learn lines, write Space Toaster, and sleep. Oh, what an exciting life I lead!
