Author’s Notes: Another chapter of my fluffy series is here for all those wonderful people who have commented and kept me writing this! Not the best chapter as its sort of connecting up the next set of letters, but I hope you all still like where the fic is going as I am definitely writing it for you! Big thankies to saturniia for the great series title as well! You are all so great for sticking with this!! :D
Also if you like the idea of letters, then you simply must check out the two fics written by
2nd_toshiko ! They are simply incredible!!!
Stuffing another biscuit into his mouth, Jack stood up quickly, looking out the open door of his office and into the Hub. Ianto had been down in the archives for over an hour now, and Jack still didn’t have his Vatarian Hammer, or more importantly a reply from Ianto.
Swallowing hard, Jack couldn’t help but reach for yet another biscuit. He always over ate when he was anxious, and right then he felt more anxious then he had done in decades. He knew Ianto loved him; at least that was all clear now. But what worried Jack the most was the future. Could Ianto accept what Jack had offered to him in his letter? Did Ianto really want Jack’s forever?
As he continued to think, Jack noticed movement from outside his office. Craning his neck slightly, he finally saw Ianto, who had paused to talk to Gwen, seemingly unaware of Jack’s gaze. As soon as Jack saw Ianto look up, he sat down with a jolt, hastily grabbing his pen to at least look as if he’d been working all the time.
“Your hammer Sir” Ianto smiled, dropping the item carefully onto Jack’s desk. “Was there anything else you needed?”
“No……..no.” Jack smiled quickly, looking up. “I……..errrr……..did you manage to find anything else interesting in the archives?”
“Nothing out of the ordinary Sir.”
“Oh.” Jack cursed Ianto silently under his breath. It appeared that he had started some sort of game. “Well if anything comes up, let me know.”
“Oh, I think you’ll know before me Sir.” Ianto winked catching Jack off guard. As the Captain watched him leave, he resisted the urge to run after him, pin him against his office door and kiss him senseless. He wouldn’t mind, but he was quite certain that was a show the rest of the Torchwood team weren’t ready for. Yet.
An hour passed, and Jack simply couldn’t take it anymore. He’d sent the team home in his efforts to have the Hub to himself, since he still had that reply to find. He’d searched everywhere, cupboards, behind monitors, under tables, the works. Every moment more made him more frustrated and even more desperate to read Ianto’s reply.
“Lost something Sir?” Ianto’s voice echoed behind him, as Jack continued to turn Gwen’s desk upside down looking for the letter.
“Where is it Ianto?” Jack smiled in return, not turning around to face him.
“And what would that be Sir?”
“Ianto!”
“Yes Sir?”
“You know exactly what I mean!” Jack felt himself growl, finally turning round to face Ianto, who by this time was wearing a huge grin.
“If you mean the item that I think you mean. Then you won’t find it there Sir I assure you.”
“Then where is it?”
“I decided to keep this one…. a little closer to my heart.” Ianto paused patting his chest. “If you get my meaning of course Sir.”
Raising a single eye brow, Jack slowly walked over to where Ianto was standing, stepping so close that their bodies were almost flush against each other. Leaning in he slowly bent his head, kissing at Ianto’s neck, whilst his right hand slid up inside his jacket. When Jack felt the soft crinkle of the paper against his hand, he slowly pulled it out, his lips still pressed to Ianto’s neck causing the younger man to groan ever so slightly.
“Congratulations.” Ianto breathed as Jack finally looked him in the eye, their faces only inches apart. “You found it.”
“At last.” Jack managed to breathe, before leaning in, pressing his hungry lips against Ianto’s. For a moment Ianto responded, reaching up and running both his hands through Jack’s hair as they deepened the kiss, both their bodies melting into each other.
“Nice try.” Ianto laughed, pulling away. “But you have to read the letter first Sir. I’ll be upstairs if you need me.” And with that, he simply retreated up to the tourist office.
Taking a few deep breaths, Jack managed to calm down and control himself. He hadn’t had any close contact like that with Ianto all day, and if the young welsh man hadn’t shown some restraint, Jack didn’t have to guess about where they would have ended up. Smiling, he looked at the letter in his hand, before opening it and reading his prize. Feeling a grin spread across his face, Jack clutched the paper tightly in his right hand. The prize had been worth it all……
Reaching into his pocket, Jack pulled out his mobile phone, something he rarely used and had only bought because of the insistence of the team. But it appeared that texts did have their uses, and this was definitely going to be one of them…..
Mr Jones, Your proposal of a date sounds most interesting. After checking my diary it seems that I have an opening this evening. Would you be interested? If so, meet me back here at 7.00pm tonight. As I am a gentleman, I can assure you that dining arrangements will have been made. Love, Mr Harkness
Jack felt himself grin as he sent the message. He should have written another letter on paper, but the anticipation was too much now. He needed an answer straight away from the beautiful man who was working away above him. And barely a few moments later, his phone buzzed into life. He’d finally got the first straight forward answer of the day.
I’d be delighted Jack. See you at 7pm then. And make sure you take me somewhere classy yes? Yan xxxx
