Author’s Notes: Huge thanks to everyone who commented on “The List” “Paper Chase” and “Dear Mr Jones”. I appreciate it sooo much and without you and your ideas I wouldn’t have written this either! You are all amazing! This series would be nothing without your input. As always, comments are adored, cherished and of course life. :)

Ianto gave a frustrated glance towards Jack’s office. He must have read his list by now. But ever since he’d come back to the Hub, Jack hadn’t said a word about it, and there was no reply waiting on Ianto’s desk. Had he said something wrong? Maybe he’d been too open about how he felt. But Jack felt the same didn’t he? He’d said so in his own list. But then again Ianto was never meant to read that. Was Jack angry that he’d found it?

Ianto decided that he had to find out. Standing up quickly, he strode over to the coffee machine and began to brew Jack a cup. Adding a dash of hazelnut syrup (just the way that Jack liked) he reached for his secret weapon. Chocolate digestives with a caramel centre.  He had saved them for emergencies, and now seemed like as good a time as any. Loading the biscuits and coffee onto a tray, Ianto quickly made his way up to Jack’s office, tapping the door with his knuckles before stepping inside.

“Coffee sir.” He smiled, setting down the tray on Jack’s desk.

“Ohhhhhh.” Jack moaned slightly. “That smells divine Ianto.” Feeling a wave of relief wash over him, Ianto couldn’t be happier that Jack wasn’t angry with him, especially now.

“It’s my job Sir.”

“No it’s not Yan. You know you’re so much more than that.” Ianto blushed, he knew Jack was right, but he still loved to hear him say it. Giving him another smile, Jack lowered his head back down to his work, leaving Ianto watching him expectantly.

“So, you find anything interesting in here?” Ianto asked, realising that he was about as subtle as a bull in a china shop.

“Not really.” Jack smiled. “Only that you hadn’t saved me by doing that budget report.”

“Oh.” Ianto hissed, clenching his fists slightly. “Right. I’ll just……just get back to work then.” He mumbled, turning to leave.

“Oh Ianto?”

“Yes Jack?” Ianto grinned, spinning round hopefully.

“You couldn’t fetch me the Vatarian hammer from vault 810 could you? I need it to do some repairs downstairs.” Nodding sadly, Ianto left the office, pausing to jot down the item Jack had requested in his notebook.

“11/5/06 - Jack requests Vatarian Hammer from archive 810.

Tempted to throw it at him.”

“Oi Teaboy!” Ianto looked up to see Owen giving him a disgusted look. “Where’s my coffee then?”

Down in the archives, Ianto walked down the hall until he reached vault 810, the archive he had affectionately come to call “The Alien Toolbox”. Typing in the six digit code he opened it with a jolt, rummaging around until he found the Vatarian Hammer and pulled it out. As he closed the vault door, Ianto noticed a piece of paper lying within the protective plastic bag that the hammer was sealed in. Raising his eyebrow inquisitively, he reached into the bag and removed it. Opening it carefully, he began to read the first line aloud, his voice echoing round the room.

“Dear Mr Jones.”

As he read on, Ianto felt his stomach flip and his heart beat faster. Jack had replied, and in a much more heartfelt and honest way than Ianto could ever imagine. Reading the soft words over and over, Ianto felt his hands press the letter to his chest; his head resting back against the wall. Everything he had ever hoped to hear Jack say was in that letter……..

Before he knew it, Ianto was reaching into his pocket and grabbing his notebook and pen. Hastily he tore out a clean sheet and started to write, his hands shaking with anticipation.

Dear Captain,

I can’t describe how much your letter means to me. It says everything that I’ve wanted to know for so long now, although I know that we may never really be able to admit how strong our feelings are face to face. Maybe that’s why I’m replying back by letter. Because I want to keep our new found honestly alive.

You are the most amazing man I have ever known Jack Harkness, and it makes me so proud and happy that you feel that I’ve rescued you. Just knowing that makes every day worth living, makes all the alien shit we go through seem worth it. I’m glad that you’ve finally admitted to the fact that sometimes even you need rescuing.

As for forever, well we don’t need to worry about that now. Forever isn’t important to me Jack; all I care about is right now. And right now I know that where I’d most like to be is in your arms.

Just remember that I feel the same for you as you do for me. That’s what’s important, not how long it will last.

All my love,

Your Ianto Jones

P.S

I am very intrigued by this “catching up” that you suggest. Maybe we should make a date sometime? But I’m a respectable boy, so you have to wine and dine me first!!
