- Prelude to the Romance -
Lose the MP seat and you lose the crown, that's the way things work in Singapore.
Unlike the US Presidential System where the Head of State is like a CEO, freed from the direct representation of the Congress, the Singapore adopted the UK parliamentary system that made the Prime Minister liable for representing a particular electorate within the country at the same time.
In this current situation, If PM Lee loses the election, it means that he loses the support of his Ang Mo Kio GRC voters, and hence does not qualify to represent the entire Singapore, even if the whole Singapore back him as a collective majority.
That is why if BG George Yeo loses in Aljunied GRC, he has to pack and go.
It doesn't matter how good he is as the Foreign Minister. In the first place, he is not a good one. Jaya is much better at the job.
Singaporeans should know and accept the system, therefore learnng to part with minister-calibre MPs when they are no longer popular.
The question in politics has always been Popularity vs Competency.
History has shown that politicians need the former more than the latter, whch could be helmed by the civil service creme-de-la-creme. Popular Ministers assisted by capable Perm Secs run things better that Competent Ministers supported by popular by useless servants.
At the end of the day, people watch the political arena like as stageplay. Fans worship celebrities, not activists. A handsome face is worth much more than a pair of worthy hands.
Look at Taiwan's KMT under the leadership of the charismatic Ma Ying Jiu... we can see the Farmosa returning to mainland within 10 years' time. Under the spastic Chen Shui Bian? Forget it...
Look at HK, when people demonstrate when the laws tighten, the competent but unpopular Dong Jian Hua had to give way to Zeng Ying Quan, who is chosen by mainlanders...
Both Taiwan and HK had mainland communist China to check on them. They are blessed.
Who check on Temasek? Ho Ching? Ha...................................
Singapore has only Thia Khiang and See Tong at the moment. The young are still young. A moment of foolishness by Steve Chia and the longlasting craziness by Soon Juan almost completely wiped out the upright image built up by WP and SDA.
~ The Era of the Romance ~
For Singapore's opposition to thrive, SDP has to be absorped into SDA sooner or later... after which the Romance of 3 Kingdoms will begin:
1. PAP = Cao Cao's Wei4 Kingdom
2. WP = Liu Bei's Shu3 Kingdom
3. SDA = Sun Quan's Wu2 Kingdom
While PAP is strong, Thia Khiang and See Tong will put aside differences... they will battle the tyrant as a collective military unit.
The PAP can be distintergrated gradually in 4 steps:
1. GE2006
- take down at least 1 GRC and 2 SMCs and build a strong United Town Council backed by a strong grassroots network which the selfish PAP will not provide from the People's Association.
There should be 7-8 parliamentary seats secured. PAP should lose a minister.
2. GE2011
- Take this 5 years to convince the people that the united opposition front can goven the region well domestically... leave the foreign affairs to PAP.... by the end, take down another 1 GRC and 2 SMCS.
During these 5 years, enough evidence must be gathered against Termasek Holdings for mismanaging the people's money, if any.
There should be 2 GRCs and 4 SMCs by now (14-16 seats). PAP should lose 3 ministers.
3. GE2017
- KGC & LKY should be dead by now... GCK should be senile and LHL will be 65 years old... with most second generation leaders retiring, the 24 new MPs from GE2006 will be in their prime.
The mass media should be able to be more independent.
=> Focus to take down 2 more GRCs and 3 SMCs and be prepared to lose up to 1 GRC and 2 SMCs at the same time...
There should be 3 GRCs and 5 SMCs by now (20-23 seats). PAP should lose 3 ministers.
This is the time for WP and SDP to merge and form The Singapore Giant Party (SGP) to battle PAP.
4. GE2022
- LHL will be 70-year-old at his prime. Ho Ching becomes the Almighy Dowager of Singapore and has a tight grip on Temasek and Singapore's funding.
by now, Temasek would have secured many important securities around the globe.
There should be a great scandal that will shake the nation.
PAP to wield 9 GRCs and 4 SMCs. (The Western Zone)
SGP to command 5 GRCs and 5 SMCs. (The Eastern Zone)
+++Singapore will be effectively split into two factions - citizens who thrive under PAP will be pro-PAP and citizens who are left behind will support SGP+++
The stage is now set for the Chu3 Han4 battle!
