So today I used public transport and went into Nottingham city centre for the first time in months. It was for my 2 yearly-eye test so it was essential, need to make sure they're still a-okay and my contacts haven't destroyed my eyeballs. It gave me a small thrill to actually go into the city, a feeling of old times, though near everywhere is still shut. It's very quiet of course by "normal" standards. I really miss being able to waste some time in a coffee shop and stuff but hopefully we'll get back to that in time. Good news is my eyes are fine, but apparently my right has improved and my left got worse?? What even is that? I need to go back next week to get my new glasses and have my contacts checked again then that should be it until 2023 (God damn it).

My appointment was at 8:45am so I feel like I've been up hours. I'm usually don't get up until after 8am on my days off. Once I got home I watched "Return of the King", which took until early afternoon because it's so fucking long; I've re-watched the entire trilogy over the past week. I think my favourite character is actually Theoden, I didn't see this coming - I never used to really care about him. He has some of the best lines in the movie and is in some epic, emotional shots, and the Rohan are my faves - horses, d'oh! I must have just been blinkered by Christopher Lee back in the day, I was absolutely fixated on him back when those films came out.

I've enjoyed revisiting them all, they are visually absolutely stunning, and the soundtrack is *chef's kiss* beaut. But besides the last film being too damn long even in the regular edition (as you get nearer the end you're like "ffs, edit your movie; this is pointless filler, it should be done by now") I still feel quite uncomfortable by the racial representations of the "evil" races of men from the East. I know its "canon" to a degree - the books talk of the "swarthy" men in Sauron's service - but in a set of movies made at the turn of the century, I think they could have dispensed with that racial bullshit.  And also had some black elves or something? It might just be me, but I think that it's all just too damn obvious and unpleasant.

Finally, Facebook has reminded me today that it's 13 years since I first received a letter back from Geoffrey Rush. I still have it somewhere, and the best thing about it was that he wrote "HRH" in front of my name on the envelope. There's nothing like being promoted to royalty by your fave. I assume it's because I fucking love his Walsingham so he made me a queen? What a guy. :3 I think I was that one Walsingham fan in a group of filthy pirate lovers. LOL.
