I'm going to see my Phoenix-boy in Derby on Sunday! Yay! I've missed him so much. :) I'm hoping that he's started to chill out a bit because I'd like to take him to a couple of small dog shows for a bit of fun to see how he does - but just small ones, mind! He's not ready to go back to the big ones yet, I don't think. They cost too much to enter, anyway.
My mum's mongrel dog Bailey is my training project of the moment. I'm positive he's got Dobermann in him - Black Labrador and Dobermann. He's got a proper Dobie character - affectionate, confident and manipulative! - and he has some of the physical attributes, like the arched neck, curly tail and tight but powerful build, but he's black all over with a white blaze to the chest, and he's smaller than a Dobermann. He's pretty bomb-proof temperament wise - nothing makes him afraid or aggressive, which is fantastic! Keeping his attention long enough to train him is the issue - so Grace has got to be firm with this young man! I've also got to put in a lot of effort to make myself more interesting than Bailey's surroundings so that he pays attention to me and I can make some progress. Bailey's very intelligent and remembers things easily, but training him will take a lot of enthusiasm and effort - but very few dogs are easy to train! I look forward to the challenge! :D (I also think that if I can successfully train this boy, then I'm capable enough to own and train a Dobe in future.)
So now... I really should get on with some work! I've done remarkably little over the past 48 hours... It's just too easy to get distracted by shiny internetz - plus all I have to do is turn my head either to the right or left and there are Geoffrey picture before my eyes! I shouldn't try to work in my bedroom really... bad idea.
